Hi everyone, I hope this isn't a repetitive post. I've got a 2013 4runner with KDSS. I'm about to give it to my son however I noticed the system is leaking while putting on snow tires.

My current plan is to replace the stock suspension with a fox 2.0 system. However when I look at suspension systems online I see a lot of replacements are KDSS specific.

Can I buy any 4runner system or do I need a specific setup to replace the KDSS setup (I was thinking the shock mounts may be differed?)

Also does anyone know if you can buy caps to seal the old KDSS system? They look to be approx 20mm....

Again I apologize if this is a repetitive post.

The Limited does not have KDSS. It has Xreas, which can be removed and placed by the aftermarket suspension system of your choice. You don't need to be concerned about KDSS specific suspensions any longer, as those do not apply to a Limited.

I personally would remove all the old Xreas system if I were replacing it, but the lines can be capped off; I am not certain of that procedure. There are YT videos detailing the process.

Glwood54 - Thanks, honestly I thought KDSS and Xreas were interchangeable terms. Thanks for straighting me out.

Yep, Limited have non kdss sway bars. They are regular sway bars.

Limited only have XREAS suspension, the suspension are cross linked. The lines run along the frame crossing at the front cross member. I didn't do it myself. I used a 4x4shop and they charge 100 bucks to remove all the XREAS lines. So basically the regular labor to install lift / any suspension is about 700 bucks and additional 100 bucks to remove the XREAS lines. Initially I got Bilstien5100 on my Limited and later changed to a different suspension. Pretty much you can install any suspension that fit 4runner.

If money permits I wonder how much a dealer would charge to replace 4 xreas shocks and recharge the system. Just curios because I haven't felt a suspension kit comfy as XREAS.

Xreas is a great system, just costly to repair. I’d imagine you’re looking at 2-3k to fix it and replace if the shop knows what they’re doing. Dealer service dept is probably over 3k.

    Agreed. XREAS rides nice.

Last I heard, it was in the $3-4K range. You can put a pretty nice suspension system on for that kind of dough.

Per the 4x4shop around here the most comfy suspension they recommend was ELKA 2.5DC, just over $4000 mark (without rear springs). On pavement no where near as XREAS. Off pavement completely different story though. Damn I miss that off pavement comfort.

But then they insisted on putting some 20 inch rims on there, taking away 1.5 inch of sidewall that makes contact with the ground

I imagine a limited with SR5 or OR wheels would ride even better.

This is why I went to an 18" wheel. It was much nicer with the XREAS. Shortly after all 4 corners were leaking, so bye-bye.

So, did the 18" wheels have anything to do with it leaking or was it just time?

Why would more cushion on tires cause the XREAS to leak earlier? If anything the softer sidewalls allows the XREAS to work less hard and lasted longer than the stiffer 20 inch wheel set up.

What an odd question. It was just time. I replaced XREAS at around 155K. And, it's really not that hard to completely rip out.
