If you had $5000

Hey folks,

I will preface this with I have been going deep into the forums and I am still confused/undecided.
I just picked up a 2018 SR5P and I am looking at suspension upgrades. I have around $5K I can spend for suspension, rims, tires.
So my question is, if you had this budget where and on what would you spend it on?

Supercharger, hands down. Suspension would have to wait

 

The first thing I would do is make sure it is paid for before I put $5000 into it.

After that, wheels, tires and a minor lift is about it.

 

Tires / sliders will get you pretty far and don't cost $5k

 

Not sure which SC you planning on getting but I bet by the time its done its more than 5k.

 

So these responses have had me laughing pretty good. I appreciate the feedback. Supercharging is not something I am interested in. I have a built motor Harley to satisfy the speed needs. I also planned/saved accordingly, got a good deal on the truck, and got a great trade on my F-150, so the 4Runner is in a good place financially. Lastly, I live in AK and would like some better clearance and something less soft in the suspension dept. We also camp, hike and hunt a lot. Need a stronger suspension for the weight of a moose during moose season. As I said, I read a lot on suspensions for these, but most people fall in 2 camps...spacer lift or Icon stage whatever. Spacer is not an option and I am not against an Icon, but I am trying to see what people with more experience on these trucks would do if they were in a similar position.

 

For suspension you might wanna take a look at Dobinsons. I've read a lot of good things about their products and I plan to buy a setup from them whenever I get around to lifting my 4Runner.

 

I am of the variety that doesn't like to rebuild shocks so I would lean towards something from Old Man Emu. Their systems are durable, you can get light to heavy depending on your needs, they work well, and parts, if needed, are readily available.

 

Thanks for those recs gents! Both Dobinsons, OME, and Toytec have all stood out to me as very viable options. Rebuildable shocks don’t scare me, however; quality, longevity, and cost are the paramount concerns. What packages or combinations from these companies are a good bang for the buck?

 

Contact Matt at MCM Fab he will set you up right with an ADS system. He is also about done developing 3.0 coilovers for the 4runners.

I went with Dobinsons and really like it! This is my first lift, so can't compare it to any other.

 

If it was me, I'd go with King adjustable extended shocks all around with some Camburg UCA's. I'd level it in the front and keep the back stock ride height.

I'd get either Trail or TRD Pro wheels with some 285 A/T's.

I'd also get some Total Chaos rear links.

If I had any money left over (which I doubt I would after all this) I would get a Gobi low rise stealth rack.

If I had it to do again: Recovery Gear and a method of stowing/mounting it effectively. Ham radio, mapping software and a tablet, GPS receiver, Tires, Sliders. Radflo Suspenion, Gas Tank Skid. Save the rest till something breaks then upgrade/replace. Earn more money. Repeat

 

Look into ADS.

 

Kings are the way to go.
