I hesitate to call this a build thread just because my mods will be very mild. I’m currently “building” a foxbody mustang and that is a real build. The 4Runner will be more of a basic improvement type of build. Lol

Anyway, I bought it new and haven’t done anything to it except for tinting the front windows to match the rear and I recently put a set of Falken Wildpeaks on it. These are the stock size, which is unfortunate because I have parts to lift it on order and had I planned better, I would’ve gotten 275’s. No big deal, but I may appear to have skipped leg day for a while until I wear this set of tires out.

    Here’s the run-down:
2017 off road premium with KDSS. My 5th 4Runner with a mildly modded 2nd gen Tacoma mixed in. For the most part, I enjoy the on road performance of the KDSS, but a few weeks ago I had reached my limit on body roll, brake dive, narrow stance and ride height. So I dusted off my wallet and broke out the laptop. So far I have ordered a set of spidertrax spacers, pro grill, the 6112 kit and 5160’s for out back. The 5160’s may be a while, last I heard they were a few weeks out.

I still need rear coils. I know a ton of people run the T13 but I’m intrigued by the new bilstein rear coils since I figure they’ll be a perfect match to the front. I can’t seem to find anyone running them though and I don’t know which ones I should order. They have 1-1.5” and 1.5-2” versions plus a version for added weight which I don’t need. I figure I’ll use the 2.4” notch on the 6112’s so for a level frame I need 1.5” rear. If anyone has input on this, I’d love to hear it. Also, how ridiculous will it look at that height on stock size wildpeaks?

I’ll keep this thread updated as I make progress and I’m a pic whore so there will be plenty of eye candy along the way. Comments and suggestions are welcomed!

My spidertrax spacers came and I had planned to wait until my bilstein setup was delivered but that could be a while, plus I was dying to see the difference, so I went ahead and installed. It was time for the first rotation on my wildpeaks anyway so why not.

    As always nice packaging:

Up in the air went the 4Runner. ‘64 Impala SS409 looking on:

Remove your wheels. I like to put a thin coating of anti-seize between the rotor and spacer. I’ve run these on every Toyota I’ve driven and never had an issue, but I have had them get stuck to a rotor before. Just follow the instructions and they’re great.

Then fit them on. Add red loc-tite to each lug and snug the supplied lug nuts down to 90lb.ft. in a star pattern just like you would with your wheels.

Then reinstall aluminum wheels with factory lugs at 76lb.ft. Drive 50-100 miles and check torque on spacer lugs at 80lb.ft. If anything moves, reinstall the spacer from the beginning. I’ve never had one move on me. Recheck every tire rotation and you’re good. Enjoy the stance.

I also did the “fender-liner-push-forward” mod and used a heat gun to form the front mud flaps a little to avoid rubbing until I get it lifted. I’m happy.

My pro grill also arrived but I’m holding off until a few more items arrive because my whole bumper will be off and I’d rather do all that at once. Stay tuned.
