Hi,, just picked up a 2002 2wd 148k from orig owner, spent first 15 yrs of its life in Texas, now in NY. She didn’t have a problem in 19 years then lost power while on the highway. Took it to 2 mechanics, both said they couldn’t find a problem so she bought new car.

here are the issues, any help would be appreciated!
    - (SOLVED)loss of power on highway/no pedal response. I replaced the tps, hadn’t done it since but I need to do more highway driving.
-key fobs don’t work. I tracked it to a dealer installed alarm made by Karr, uses oem remotes but I can’t get new ones to program.
-slight pull to left, air pressure good, next is to jack up front and check for worn parts, I think it needs to be aligned
-trans fluid may never have been replaced, shifts great but not sure if the model trans should be left alone at this point or serviced

-oil was changed every 4k but I’m waiting on old owner to give me the service records, she has every one,,, I might just replace every fluid either way

    thx again

I changed my transmission fluid at 250k miles. Still shifts fine. I had no particles in the transmission pan when I dropped it to replace the filter. I do not suggest going to a shop to do this. Do the drain and fill dance, do not use a pressured refill system.

For the loss of power, What engine codes do you have?

If no codes...I'm thinking a bum fuel pump?

So for trans I’ll drop the pan and inspect before replacing fluid and filter, just drain and fill.

when the loss first happened her mechanic cleared the code, I don’t know what it was. I did drive it 50 miles round trip last week and experienced the pedal not responding, no code came up or was stored. I installed a new tps but need to drive it more to see if resolved

After hwy driving today the acceleration problem happened again, p0211 with trac off and vac trac lights on. I’m reading the problem might be the pedal position sensor on the throttle body, youtube video says to open it and resolder the terminals or replace the whole throttle body,,,, I’ll try and resolder first

Ooops, it’s P0120, throttle / pedal position sensor, A circuit

I tried to resolver the connections for the pedal position sensor,,, pretty much damaged it, now I can’t even clear the code,,,, good news is I found a new sensor , I ordered it, should be here tomorrow!

Yeah, not a big fan of Amazon or Ebay parts. But considering TOYOTA won't sell this, not sure there is any better option. The part number they list is to the whole Throttle Body assembly, so unsure what to cross reference it against. Funny they call it a TPS but it's obviously not.

That's the route I took...I just got the whole new throttle body. Mine cost over $600 but I see from an online TOYOTA dealer they are down in the $400 range (I buy from Ourisman in VA). You get a fairly complicated and substantial part for the money. It solved many many issues for me.

Success! I reset the ecu and adjusted the tps, all codes cleared and running like new! The replacement pps works great! Before replacement I had a slight extended crank to start up when cold and the error codes above, all good now!
