My 4Runner is year of 2007.
    4 wheel drive
    6 cylinder
    SR5
The car has the problem as following:
One morning, I could not start my car. The garage found the ECM unit is not working. I purchased one ECM of same model. The technician installed the ECM on my car. The car was starting cranking but soon the ECM was burned again. The technician could not figure out what is the problem. Could anyone have any hints? Thanks.

Could be two things; mice or battery...load test you battery and see how many CCA it's pushing...needs to be in 10% of stated CCA...

Mine is frying the ecm’s and not letting it start. I’ve tried 3 batteries. Alternator. Starter. Cleaned all the engine bay grounds.

    I’m assuming it’s a bad wire somewhere.

If I plug the new ECM in. It turns over by its self no key needed.

with smoke coming from it. So frustrated with this thing

You can not simply swap ECUs and attempt to start the vehicle. These vehicles are equipped with an Immobilizer ECU, that much be synchronized with the new replacement ECU. The vehicle will not start unless this synchronization has occurred.

You can perform this function in Techstream, or using the “homebrew” method described in the attached document.

I ordered a vin match plug and play ECM.

    but u completely missed it.

it keeps burning the ecu’s out.

doesnt matter if it matched or not. It keeps burning it out. Where is the most common wiring problem to the computer

VIN matching is important, but that’s totally separate than resynchronizing the immobilizer ECU to the new replacement Engine ECU.

You don’t need a matching VIN to start the truck.

Will the rig turn over with out vin match. And with out resynchronizing??

    just not start

Because it won’t even turn over. No power going to the little wire in the relay. And smoke coming from one of the 3 ECM’s I’ve replaced

The vehicle will crank with a mis-match VIN and the immobilizer not sync’d. (Too many start attempts will lock things out, so don’t do too many!)

With those details cleared up, you certainly have another issue at play in your case.
