That's the youtube game though. If I see his thumbnail headline as too sensational for my taste I just don't click on it.

I've never brought him into any of my posts until today, I scroll past his stuff so much he barely gets into my feed any longer. Very much like the endlessly repetitive forum posts I scroll by in the 4Runner world. I usually only engage on travel days, stuck on a airport tarmac, bored outta my skull.

That's the problem, the worthless "influencers" get the clicks, but anything with substance gets buried. Over the years I've learned a lot on here and the other forums, YT and even fb. But you gotta dig for it because of the fluffers.

The automotive press has been largely useless for 2 decades now, cheering on new fads and dissing proven vehicles as outdated. I would rather having some abrasive personalities that are not afraid to say inconvenient things than watching polished idiots who just parrot the PR releases for a living.

Tinkerer is good. He compiles a lot of data, conjecture and hearsay before he posts a video. Then he has facts to dispel most of the BS. Goes to a lot of effort to show a valid methodology.

Actually, he's pulled in about $6-7M. Far from "worthless" and he's retired but does these for fun.

More power to him. "Worthless" is a relative term, but to me he is because he provides me nothing. Advertisers love him, I'll give him that. At least he's not climbing out and dancing on the roof of his moving car.
On the other hand, I could help people build out a long travel 4Runner, but I'm worthless to most folks on here because it would not serve them the info they want or need.

Most of youtube is absolutely useless. Just "don't recommend channel" him and move on.

If your aim is to generate publicity for Scotty, he's loving it.

Have a watch of some old episodes of the original Top Gear UK, hosted by Clarkson. In your face, honest and extremely funny.
It was the best automotive show ever. Not this nonsense they have on these days.

Dicks are often the only ones saying what everyone's thinking. People who want to play nice only tell you what the corporations want you to hear.

I only watch YT videos when I need help for something - I don't browse so I have no idea what is being talked about here.

I am, however, a huge fan of top gear and Jeremy Clarkson. My free streaming service is tuned to the 24/7 top gear UK station so I still watch a lot of reruns, even if they're 20+ years old and outdated. Sad that the grand tour is over but looking forward to the next season (or few) of Clarkson's Farm

Unfortunately it's not going to get any better with wildfires and hurricanes wiping out housing. Not sure the population is dropping but the housing options sure are.

Sorry, that's going to derail the thread and I'm good at that.

Let's get back on track - beam me up Scotty

Tinkerer approaches things in a way that is intelligent. Makes it much harder to create content because you can’t just parrot nonsense.

Scotty isn't doing that. I watched the video despite my better judgment, so I can comment on it while fully informed. That wasn't a well-researched video, it actually was full of factual errors (turbos and torque curves), omissions (5th gen frame rust issues), and missing information (Toyota TGNA platform, Taco = 4Runner, etc.)

If Scotty was an actual car enthusiast instead of playing one on TV, he would have covered the following content:

    1. Go over recent Toyota TGNA issues
    2. Cover new Taco issues, explaining that likely to spill into 4Runner.
    3. Examine real world mileages for the new vs. old 4Runner in terms of cost savings on gasoline.
    4. Speculate on increased lifetime maintenance costs due to turbo and hybrid. Pull up some figures for parts and hourly costs on turbo replacement, hybrid battery replacement to give viewers understanding of these changes in terms of repair costs.
    5. Contrast this with existing track record of 5th Gen maintenance costs.
    6. To be fair to Toyota - cover 5th Gen frame rust issues and explain how Toyota is addressing it in 6th gen with better frame design and factory applied rustproofing inside the frame.

Instead it was "It still has V6" low-information click bait.

Ya, he should have a YouTube class, with those 6.44 million viewers I bet he laughs all the way to the bank every month. I've seen some of his vids, I can always seem to come up with something better to watch!

    Oooh look, another mod.....
That guy is the YouTube equivalent of those women on the The View.

He says the most outlandish shit possible, to get clicks and views, which thus lead to ad dollars in his pocket. And just like the women on the view he does not care who he offends or if he is even right.
