Will all 4Runners be hybrid soon? Or will there be a mix?

Wondering, will all new 4Runners be hybrid soon?
or, will there be a mix of hybrids and all gas??

I never understood why people like these guessing game threads.

 

What's "soon"? 8 months? 8 years?

The 4Runner isn't in a segment on decline like the Camry, so it hasn't gone all hybrid for this year.

 

Toyota can't build an emissions-compliant diesel for passenger vehicles without cheating, so that's unlikely.

 

The 2025+ 4Runner is split between gas-only and gas-electric hybrid.

SR5, TRD Sport/Premium are gas-only.
TRD Off-Road/Premium, Limited are available in both.
Platinum, TRD Pro, Trailhunter are hybrid-only.

Note that the hybrid battery and optional third-row are mutually-exclusive.

Land Cruiser is hybrid-only, GX is gas-only (for now)

 

I heard Detroit Diesel 20V149.

 

Do you think one should pre-fill those oil filters?

 

And, what kind of tire should I run on that? Will raptor lights fit?

 

Truth is even with the assumption both gas and hybrids are on the table, we have no idea what percentage gas vs hyrid Toyota will actually produce and ship to the States, since customer cannot order theirs and only do what they can with what's available.

The hybrid gets 10% better mpg on paper so how many gas only model they are willing to ship here is anyone's guess.

Like how even with long wait lists they limited the number of TRD pros to make markups a thing until the end of the 24s, even though it's simpler to produce than KDSS ORPs and much of the package is applied at port? Or how in the last few years they made very few non Premium ORs, and very few ORPs without sunroofs at that?

They will always maximize profit and squeeze what they can. Customers are expected to line up and take what they get.

 

For 2025 you can choose either whistle-only, or whistle plus whirr. Maybe on future models, they’ll offer whistle plus plug-in whirr.

Toyota went 14 years before releasing a new generation, so I think it'll be a while before they go hybrid only.

 

If you install Raptor lights on a gas model, won't it become a hybrid?

 

It's already a gas-gravity hybrid!
