Okay, hear me out here. I've never owned a 4x4 before. And, honestly I thought buying the 4x4 SR5 might be kinda dumb. A month later and we get a foot of snow here in Northern Kentucky. This is not normal!

So today, my wife goes to back out her Honda CRV through the snow plow drift and got stuck. No biggie, a bit of shoveling and a push and she is on her way. Fast forward a few hours later and I 'just have to move the 4runner'.. for reasons! Back it up in 2wd and sure enough, it wants to get stuck.

Here is my moment!!!! Throw it into 4lo (don't laugh) and just back right on over that stuff. I've now established that I was justified in getting a 4x4!!

Joking aside, the authority it showed in handling that was impressive to a 4x4 noob like me. Loving my new ride.

I thought it was quite funny while writing it as well. What’s funny is I obviously don’t have the cutoffs

 

Changed engine oil and transmission, T case, diffs.
This was my first time to drain through the Valvomax drain valve that I placed at my last change. It worked well. No leakage or dripping during the oil change interval and the drain tube device screwed on smoothly and drained the pan without issue. I think it will work well with a skid plate that has a window for the oil pan without concern of a mess. That said, I also got the drain bag system to drain directly into a container but it does not fit under the truck adequately for smooth flow of the drainage and I ended up just taking it off and draining into a drain pan and transferring into containers as usual. No way this would go under a car short of having a lift or putting the entire vehicle up on jackstands/ramps. (which I ain't going to do)

First off, I’d like to apologize for all the goons and their insensitive comments about you not enjoying the 4R. You have to understand we are a bunch of FanBoys here. Regarding you selling your truck: I’d say, give it a chance. The 4Runner will always drive rough and it will be impossible to find another more reliable car. Additionally this truck will still be worth a pretty penny in 6 to 12 months if you really give it an honest try and still don’t like it. I’d propose drive it for another couple of thousand miles, take a dirt road or two and maybe test drive some other ‘comparable’ cars before making a hasty decision to get rid of it. If all that doesn’t work, no one here should blame you for wanting a different car. Would love to keep you in the club, but I also understand that this is not the car for everyone. Good luck!

 

Drove the 2011 to take the grandchildren to school. They had a two hour delay and their parents had to be at work on time.

 

I took my little Brittany boy to the vet for his neuter. I had to run in 4high until I got to the main highway. Yesterday, I played around with crawl control and trac-off. Our cul-de-sac had some snow piles at the end from the county plows.

 

I was giving my 4R the periodic 4wd run-through last weekend, 4H, 4L, locker, etc. in a large dirt area near the house. I tried MTS & Crawl Control for the first time since owning the vehicle. MTS was without incident, but CC was quite the experience. It launched my little dog onto the floor boards, as I was moving a bit when I engaged it, and it was on #1, which is the slowest speed crawl. I'm going to read up more on the CC usage then try it again on some decent sized hills in another area I go to. That is one noisy feature, I have to say.
