Sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t. 0-20 flows very easily, and there is still some left over oil already on the cylinder walls, valve train that’s residual, so it’s not like a completely “dry” start. It builds oil pressure relatively fast.

I’m not sure if the 4Runner has the flood mode. Where you can prime the system, hold foot on brake and gas at same time while pressing push to start. Starter should engage for 10 seconds then stop.

I wouldn’t worry too much about it

I have a couple of times but don't now. I watch the oil light on the dash at start-up. There is no noticeable difference in time when the oil light goes off.

I haven't done that with the 4R filter housing setup. I do it with other twist on filters.

Some times I do and sometimes I don't. Depends upon how frustrated I am doing the oil change on this thing on that day.

This video and a subsequent one is why I brought it up.

I wasn't doing it before but have since started.

One of his video shows that it not only benefits that first start but multiple starts afterwards.

Blacked out badges, window deflectors, smoked 3rd brake light. I have a Borla muffler on order as well as some color matched engine cover stickers. I'll be painting the stock wheels soon as well. Falken tires in the fall as well.
Yes. I've always filled any filter that is upright and won't spill when you try to spin it on so I continue with the 4Runner.

i can see the possibility to help on start up after an oil change only but after that our 4runner canister filters are always full of oil.

Why would it even matter if the oil filter is empty for a few seconds? What about all the vehicles that have a vertical or horizontal filter that can’t be pre filled? Those engines are perfectly fine and last just as long as any others.

I admit that habit has fallen off since buying the 4Runner - it’s my first cartridge-equipped vehicle.

It’s amazing how many of you will do 5K intervals because “it’s cheap insurance” but won’t pre fill the filter which is free insurance.

I can't find it at the moment but in another one of Lake Speed Jr's videos, he shows that pre-filling the oil filter not only improved the time it takes to get oil pressure for initial engine start-up but that subsequent starts had faster oil delivery as well (fractions of a second, but still improved).

If I can find it again, I'll post it.

How would you pre fill the oil filter on this engine? FYI that’s one of the most reliable and longest lasting engines ever built.

I had 2 of them 1 FJ's 2008,(2012 this one had the remote like the 4Runner has) & 1 2015 Tacoma. Yes you can't on that engine. Do what you want I really don't care what you do or don't, hence my 1st response

Start-up is when most wear takes place.
