So my teenage son backed my 2015 forerunner into a trailer, he dented in the liftgate, cracked the bumper cracked both fenders flares on either side see damage I know just could do insurance, but he just would go up. I didn’t know how much if anyone has idea out-of-pocket roughly what it might be. IMG_4036.jpg IMG_4033.jpg IMG_4036.jpg IMG_4033.jpg

    Oooh look, another mod.....
I'm sorry to read about the damage to your 4Runner. Quick question: When is your sons funeral?

Looks like a lot of damage from backing up. He must have had a pretty good head of steam up. (speed)

We had the exact same parts replaced on our 2020. I'll look for the estimate that has the parts costs from Toyota. I know the shell for the rear hatch was $900. I don't recall the other prices but I'll look.

I had to replace the whole tailgate on my '22 ORP due to a big parking lot dent with paint damage beneath the rear window. This was just the tailgate itself... nothing else. After negotiation it cost me $2000 cash at my local body shop (no insurance claim). I don't know what the parts breakdown of the entire tailgate assembly is... I'm assuming they were able to re-use all of the internals and trim pieces.

edit: looking at your damage... I think you'd be looking at at least 2x what it cost me. Probably $5k'ish

Most accidents are front collisions,so you can probably find a good rear end,go to car-part.com and find a donor truck.

Ouch..time to trade it in...the son I mean.
But that will cost a pretty penny. The dent on the tail gate can be done by PDR. Plastic can be repaired but mostly finding a replacement part is better.

I would guess a few grand. I would ask for a cash price and then insurance. Maybe a shop would work a cash deal for you

I would not get rid of it because of this accident alone.

My Dad cracked the lower bumper on my accord a while back and they “plastic welded” for a crack in it like you have. A plastic weld and repaint of lower bumper was round $500. Maybe they can reuse the existing bumper and save some money.

Sorry, I don't see this being fixed by PDR. There are gouges into the sheet metal.

    Ooooh. Nice.

Reminds me of when my daughter was in high school and accidentally backed the car into the porch decking and shook the entire house. 2002 Honda Civic was already dented so no big deal. No damage to deck.

I did something similar. Backed up into a metal bench . Had similar damage, maybe not so spread out. PDR repaired it to almost 99%.
But maybe you are right, this requires a more thorough denting painting job.

similar repair to mine, less fenders, and PDR could not be done. $3700. BTW happened in a parking lot, no note left and no witness.

I have front and rear cams but on only when the vehicle is on. The T4R gets minimal use and not battery efficient to have the 2 cams on all the time.

Mine have 2 feeds, constant power and accessory power. Constant power is like standby power, the cam will only start recording if it picks up motion or there is impact to the vehicle. I can barely bump my truck and it will start recording. My truck sometimes sits for 2 weeks without being driven and I have never had a dead or weak battery.

mine is relatively old and does not have the motion capability so it would be constantly on.

I have Thinkware cams in all of my cars, they have been great so far. The first one I installed was in 2018 and it's now in my 4Runner, it's a F200 pro with a rear cam. I installed the Q800 pro in my daughters Rav4, I can track her car and watch the real time video .

Repair it properly through insurance. Make your son pay the deductible and the difference of the insurance rate hike. Damn sure he won't be backing into shit again. Kids NEED to learn consequences.

That’s how I learned pony up some cash.

When you get the hatch fixed see if they can put an extra gasket around the “4Runner” garnish badge. See if yours is pinching and causing rust. See the sticky’s in 5th Gen forum at top for more info. It’s a good time to address it if needed
