If you've never disconnected the sway bar ends on a KDSS 4R, be prepared to have a bit of a fight getting them back connected. It's not like that weenie sway bar on the other models.

In addition - If you want a second opinion, you should take it to a Lexus dealership as they are way more experienced with KDSS system. This was a design originally made for Lexus many years ago and even with current GX's as well. KDSS is undeniable a very good system with minor to no flaws, what you are experiencing is not normal... looking forward to seeing those pictures.

Pictures: I may not get them until after the weekend. Heading out tomorrow for a 3 day camping trip.

I talked to a Lexus dealer as wel as a local independent shop that does a lot of Land Cruiser work, and they both said "ohh, 4Runner system is very different, we can;t help you"

I have a local shop that does suspension work and they said they could take a look and play with the shutter valves. I also have a local Toyota dealer that offered to take a look and actually do some old fashion diagnosis versus just "hook up the computer and see what it says."

So I have options, but I'm also thinking this is a fairly simple hydaulic system with few moving parts, so I'm trying to figure it out first.

One of the questions I have is how it is under pressure? Fluid is not compressible, gas is, so how is the system pressurized?

It's two pistons exerting pressure on each other, when valves are opened, and locked in place by the fluid, when valves are closed. Where is the pressure?

I'm reading through the KDSS Long term reliability? thread to understand more, so my aplogies if this is somehtig that has been beaten to death already.

Still around, just got other crap happening, so this is taking a back seat. Interesting enough I just did a two day WA BDR Section 4 ride and during the drive the lean almost went away, but it then came back when we stopped and camped for the night. When driving the next day, after about 2 hours, it also lessened. So something is up.

Damn, that's bad. I lifted mine 4 years and 90K miles ago. No lean. Here's a recent picture..

New here and I don't have a 4 runner but I sympathize with OP because I have the exact same issue on my 21 gx460. Never had a lean until ironman 4x4 stage 2 lift kit was installed and comes the 1.25 inch lean on pax side . Since then I have taken it to 3 overland 4x4 shops that's reputable and talked to Dom who suggest I disconnect the kdss connector and drive. Most shops suggest adding spacers or even adjust the preload on the coilover to compensate the lean which I have not done yet because I shouldn't have to. what I find mostly surprising is that this kdss lean is such a common issue in the Toyota Lexus world but without any sort of straight forward way to adjust or fix. Shop already tried to manually calibrate by opening the shutter valve method and Jack the pax side up which often works on the older 200s. Didn't work on my gx tho. Today I took the rig to the trail and hit it hard while the kdss is disconnected when I got home the lean is still there.

So yes I sympathize with OP trying to figure this out because adding spacers or adjusting the preload is the last thing I want to do. I personally think the hydraulics on the kdss is over extended and locked for some reason after the lift. Let's see where this tread takes us. Good luck. Any information or comments is appreciated. I'm posting here because I too am desperate to resolve this phenomenon.

If stock Lexus GX460 are approved to get the KDSS lean fixed by changing springs per the Lexus technical service bulletin I don't see why not change the preload on the springs to fix the KDSS lean when lifted. I think it does the same thing.

Maybe give the shop who followed the steps which normally fix LC200 KDSS lean issues might be a good option. Maybe they know what they are doing than others?

The shop that does most of the LC200 in southern California told me I need to first install Dr kdss switch and see "if" that will fix it. But I already applied what the switch will do which is to shut off the kdss and drove around and it did not fix the lean just yet. Hence, in my humble opinion pretty much everyone is guess-esmating. No body truly know HOW to fix the kdss lean 100% the suggestions on YouTube and are circulating around on forums are pretty much the same. Open shutter valve, adjust, repeat and if that doesn't work then you're pretty much left with options of adding spacers or shims. All I know is, I didn't have it before lift And now I got it. So you maybe right that I maybe left with no option but to adjust preload on the front coilover and adding some spacers in the rear.

Does your lean occur while driving or only when stationary? Does it occur when stationary and idling (after driving) or only after the vehicle is shut off?

it seems perma. Doesn't matter when I'm driving or stationary it leans. I know this because while I drive I notice I'm leaning and others who follow behind me tell me my gx is leaning. Idling, same. Parked and shut off, same.

Bummer. Yeah I’d adjust the shock collar up .5”front right corner and be done with it. I believe that kit has the locking rings that allow adjustment without pulling the shock - easier than bilstein. You could do it in 20 mins, count threads, and revert if you don’t like the result.

It’s a valid fix. Toyota does the same, but opposite side (driver front), to correct lean on trd pro fox suspension.

A lift will always exaggerate the lean, more so when it's 2"+. It's why i have not lifted my 4R with KDSS.

    Remove the lift.
