Help! I started my vehicle this morning & 4lo light ,traction & check engine lights all blinking. Honestly I haven't ever engaged the 4 lo. So I tried everything in my manual to disengage. To H4 I drove it & doesn't feel right. Any suggestions as to why? I just drove it the other day & it was fine.

Sounds like the electronic transfer case actuator is the culprit. If the actuator never gets used, it can cause problems. The wife’s Sequoia has the same issue because she doesn’t exercise 4H/4L. We were quoted $3-4k to fix. Transfer case has to come out and be disassembled to replace actuator. It’s a use it or lose it system. This is one advantage of the manual transfer case.

Try putting in 4H and move straight forward & back a couple feet max. Your driveway is fine. Then select neutral gear and put in 4 lo. My daughter 4runner also was stubborn as she never shifted into either 4WD in over 11 months.
After several attempts the 4 H and 4 lo lights were NOT blinking. My SR 5 clunks when actuator engages 4lo.
I have read its good to cycle the 4WD actuators every month or so.

Is the transmission shifting correctly and moving smoothly through all positions?

If the Neutral Safety Switch (NSS) is being wonky, it can trigger a bunch of warning lights.

Mine does it occasionally and I lose overdrive and cruise control too.

Wheel speed/abs sensor most likely broke. Had this happen to me recently.

Google image search above and find the locations of them and check them. Or if you have a close by oreilly/advance auto that has a professional scanner it should show up appropriately.

Is the check engine light blinking or solidly lit? Blinking is bad.

I would start by using a code reader. Most parts stores will read a code for free hoping you will buy their parts. Sometimes a check engine light will illuminate with other lights to get your attention. One could only speculate your issue without knowing the code. There are a ton of different codes. Many different possibilities. When you know the code it will be easier to diagnose. Could be a loose gas cap. Maybe a misfire?? Best to read the code first.

Thank you all for your thoughts. Apparently a Critter made a nest in my truck & completely chewed through the wiring. So they are replacing wiring & Gaskets. Also changing the spark plugs.

I've been using this stuff for about a year. No idea if it really works, but I spray around my engine bay every oil change. :notsure:
