I’m 70 with a 23 4runner, my choice would be my 86 ford 150 short box with big ass BFG tires, lol.

I’m in the same boat! I rushed to buy my 2024 in March to get a 5th gen. I’m @56 and no plan to replace it any time soon! I should be able to keep it till i’m 75, at that time well a corolla or camry should be enough to take me to the cemetery

My first vehicle, bought as a project when I was 14, a 73 K10 short box, pic circa 1998-ish. 4" lift, 35" tires, and front leaf springs like god intended. I still kick myself for selling this.

Another question If I may. Since the years up to 2017 only had the aux tranny cooler, would it be ok If I had one installed If I were to purchase something without it? It is not that expensive.

That was a nice build ...dude has a 3rd gen now. Of course you can add a cooler and a better one than OEM, especially if you constantly tow.

Been thinking lately that I'm done with Toyota after this 4R, I think I may try an F150 2.7L EB next.

Yeah, why not? More power, better mpg, huge interior space with flat floor, aluminum body that won't rot out. By all accounts 2.7 is a solid motor, with the exception of some early Broncos. The new Toyota reliability is a big question mark right now, so there's no disadvantage there.

The Ford also has a clean look compared to the design nightmare that is the new Tundra.

With an available E-locker and 36 gallon fuel tank, it has the potential to be a great base for an overland build.

Everyone I know that has one loves it.

I’ve been reading about the new Ranger with that same engine the 2.7 as an option. The Ranger will fit in my garage much easier which is part of the appeal. The towing backup up assist looks like a great option also for backing up in tight spots.

I never thought I would look at a Ford again but that new V6 option looks good especially knowing the kinks are apparently worked out.

A few of the guys I work with have Fords, it seems like they take turns having them in the shop. I won't buy a new 4runner, the next new vehicle will most likely be another Lexus. We purchased a LX 600 this past spring, it's a really nice ride, I can't imagine going with anything American anymore.

IMO Ranger is definitely the best pick in this category. Especially the Raptor compared to the Turd PRO, it's not even close.

I wouldn’t mind an EcoBoost 2.7 much normally but they have a wet oil pump belt now along the 5.0.

So far they haven’t been blowing up like the 1.0 EcoBoost has but it’s probably going to suuuuuck to replace when it’s due, assuming it makes it.

I think the XLT with the 2.7 and maybe the FX4 package offers a lot of value also for the those with more modest budget.

I have not bought a Ford in years and my Dad is a retiree and I grew up in SE Michigan. I have to say I am sort of impressed with the newest Ranger. They missed the mark though on not having a 60/40 rear seat. Seems like such a simple and easy thing too.

I have not heard of the issue listed above. I spend too much time on this forum instead of the Ranger forum lol

Why would you get this over a raptor. If I were going to buy Ford it would absolutely be a raptor.

I'm still catching a buzz after picking up my 2024 4Runner even after 7 months of ownership.
I've wanted a 4Runner for years. Before this I have had 5 trucks in my lifetime.

I wish I could afford a Raptor. I'm thinking a used XLT for 30-35k is a decent value and within budget. Plus being in New England I don't really have the area to take advantage of a Raptor's capability.

Yeah, that belt is odd and that's the only thing that gives me pause with this motor, but I think all of the Ford truck engines have this now. It seems like every modern truck has its own set of issues, you have Ram simply being stellantis, GM with the lifter issue with the variable displacement engines, and Ford with the 2.7 valves and rubber oilpump belt.

I like the idea of the Power boost F150, but I worry about the added complexity. They seem to not hold resale very well, so I wonder if there is a specific reason why.
