2019 4Runner TRD PRO - MPG thoughts

NOTE - only at 2500 miles / more than half highway / bit of a lead foot

My 2019 4Runner TRD PRO is currently averaging 12mpg city / 14 highway.

All I have done to date is switched from the 265-70/17 AT Nitto Terra Graplers to 275-70/17 Goodyear Kevlar MT. The low MPG was consistent prior to tire swap.

I have frequently reset/refresh the MPG display. I even did it prior to cruise control drive home from my ranch yesterday...maxing out at a whopping 14mpg highway.

I'm in the process of opening up my garage entrance so it can accommodate my lifting the vehicle/ adding bigger tires. My concern being at this rate I'll drop the overall MPG to 8-10 with lift/tires addition.

Thoughts? Could the roof rack / TRD PRO package beat down the mileage that much? Is it simply too soon to judge (<5000 miles)?

 

I get about 17mpg. My pro is all stock. I would imagine your mpgs will improve over time. Tires are stock Nitto terragrapplers

 

i get between 16 - 17 mpg. I have 265/70/17 BFG KO2s E rated. Lost about a 1 mpg when i switched from stock tires.

 

Wow that's terrible I've got less than 3,000 miles on my '18 Premium and as of this weekend it read 21.1 MPG. Nothing done to it...

 

Well covered territory here... probably one of the most talked about things on this page...

285s here, and 25k on my 18 off road pro, and I get 15-16, and got the same weeks before tire/rim swap.
Just the way that 4.0 likes to drink. I'll admit, it's one of the downs on these rigs with out a doubt. Gas milage and the gutless ass motor. It's a bit tourqy, which is dope in the hills, but, sadly, it's a dog, on the road, and milage blows ass... I turned the lame eco light off before I even took it off the lot, it's just annoying to me, and I dont drive it like a 80 year old lady, but dont hot rod it every stop light and such either. I drive it. But, I highly doubt if I did, my milage would go up, to where it even mattered. Just two, of the VERY VERY few things that suck about the rig.
Everyone on here, will say the vehicles computer mpg thing is way off, and calculate yourself, (same people that say say Toyota makes the best engineered stuff, which boggles my mind) but, I get the same XXX miles per tank,(its what I really watch) over and over and over before refill, and that is equaling about 15-16 per, dead bang, or close as hell, with the vehicle number read out.. ..soooo, guess mine works fine and no ones else does. Whatev... I will say, it seemed to get "better" around 10-12k, after that and eversense. ..
Best I've seen, was 18.xx on a ride down south once. But its usually upper 15 to mid 16, lower with it being 16 degrees out an the awoke auto start lol it's around 13-14 now for warm up lol.

I still love mine to pieces. ... love it..

 

Thanks for the replies Gents! I'm coming off two heavily modified Jeep Wranglers for the last 6 years, so low mileage is etched into my DNA at this point. Regardless, I'm more than shocked / disappointed w/ my current MPG issue.

Curious to hear from someone w/ a '19

 

Same here I have a 2018 TRD ORP and was averaging 19-20 since I lifted it and put 285’s on it I can watch the MPG slowly tick down. I average 360 miles a tank city driving.

 

Man, I've never seen better than 320-330 per tank. Ever... it boggles my brain how some one sees 400 miles on a tank on this rig.

 

Before I did all the mods I saw 400 driving to see my daughter at college

 

Wow! This is definitely an exception. Is this off the computer or is this corrected by hand and also corrected for the size tires you have??

 

This is just of the computer. I checked the speedo off gps and it was accurate. Honestly I can’t remember if corrected for the tires or not. They said they would but I forgot to ask if they did.

Man. I have never ever seen over 330 on a tank. All highway even. What did you drop to after mods!?!?

 

Wow, that’s pretty crap mileage, OP. I have a stock ‘17 pro, from the first tank, consistently average 18.9, 360-379 per tank (yes,I have hand calculated too). Maybe check tire pressure? I keep mine on 37-40 psi. That roof rack shouldn’t make that much difference. I also use S4 in city driving to cut down on too much shifting, seems to help mileage too.

 

I run around 32.

Shit, for funnzies, I'll add 4lbs ish to the rubber, for a few tanks, just to see..why not.

 

I recently purchased a 19 pro for my wife, gas mileage is crap. 15-16 city, 16 hwy, I was also thinking the rack could be affecting mpg

Toyota quotes Up to 17 city / 22 highway.... you are telling me my lead foot is responsible? I respectfully disagree. I don’t drive like a bat out of hell/ not like a blue hair either. 1.5 hour cruise control home this past Sunday at 75mph on a refreshed display, I got 14mpg! Personally... seems like a class action waiting to happen. 17-22 mpg??...maybe if it’s being towed lol

 

I have stock sized KO’2s load range C and I get 17-18 city and about 20 highway. My T4R is a 2016 with 16,000 on it. I have been seeing that mpg since I purchased it.

 

I'm happy if I get above 15...

Smile...I have my 2018 Pro for 5 months now, and the average mpg is 16.1. I have come to a realization that I did NOT purchase a 4R TRD Pro base on the mpg. I have a big grin on my face every time I drive it. I stop looking at the MPG and switch the display to MPH and drive...Big Grin. And now every time someone ask me "What you're getting mpg on that 4Runner?" I just smile with a big grin on my face. That always confused them.

 

WOW!! I have a 14 SR5 with 33x12.50 Eload MT's, a full length Baja Rack with rear ladder and a light bar on top of the rack, ditch lights which causes a lot of drag and I get better than that. That Pro roof rack must really hold you down, or back, or whatever. I get almost 16 mpg highway/city.

 

@SteveDuongTRDPro Agree.... enjoying to highway ride MUCH better than my modified Jeep/ also the TRDPRO performs great on my mudbowl ranch! Simply irked by false bill of goods, thus far, from Toyota. Sunday was a big test/ and cruise control ride home at 75mph getting 14mpg was a kicker.

My current average is 13.6mpg

 

Agressive tires + lead foot + body on frame 4WD SUV and you expect good mpg?

 

Try driving at 65, which is the legal highway speed that EPA estimates are made at. Take off the mud terrains and put stock tires back on. Then you'll arrive at Toyota's advertised MPG.

 

Seriously...? I'ld probably get shot if I tried to drive 65 on our 75 mph highways... I see what you're saying tho... the data is based on a very basic and slowly driven 4runner
