Hi All! I have a new-to-me 1991 4Runner. My late husband gave it to me 4 years ago, but it wasn't running and had been sitting for about 8 years. He was too busy / sick to fix it, and then passed away.

So a retired mechanic in my town got it running for me. It runs great. The only problem is that after I've been driving it or a bit and it's all warmed up, and I have to stop somewhere, it is then hard to start.

I've still been able to start it, but it takes 3-4 tries sometimes. I just thought this was strange. It starts right up when it's cold. Now I'm worried that I will get stranded somewhere. The mechanic didn't know why it was doing that. He has a lot of projects going on, so I hate to bother him with it.

Another question I have, is there a switch inside the cab to lower the tailgate window so I can unlock the tailgate and open the back? I don't have a manual for the car, and via googling I have found references to a switch, but I can't find an actual switch inside the cab.

Thank you in advance! I love this car. It's a perfect Montana vehicle (where I live).

Edit: I can open the tailgate with the key, I was just hoping that I could do it from inside the cab, too. I don't have power windows, btw.

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
The switch is on the console just in front of the armrest.

Thank you. I did find it.

Also, the problem starting turned out to be a problem with the fuel pump. Had that replaced and it starts like a champ.

Tomorrow I'm taking it in to get a leak in the rear axle fixed. It also needs a window washer reservoir and a radiator overflow tank. Both are missing. Then I think I'll be good.
