I took the 4R to Ocala National Park on some of the “blue” trails based on ON X. It was just sand trails and I must say, I’m incredibly impressed with the truck performance being 100% stock on HT tires. I was able to climb up sandy trails and even pulled a Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x2 that was stuck out of arms way.

    anyway, just wanted to share

Yep, stock 4Runners will get the job done for 98% of the users. Mods are usually vanity projects. ;)

if your ORP has KDSS that makes it the most capable 5th gen for low speed technical trails at any price.

Honestly, even for those whose 4Runners will actually see dirt (not the majority of owners), 90% of us will never *need* anything more than a set of good A/T tires, lighting if you wheel at night, some form of recovery gear to have more as a safety precaution than something you're likely to use, and if you're bringing more stuff on a trip than fits inside the vehicle, a roof basket. I could add a compressor to the list but that's more something to carry rather than a mod.

Please! I can not do any off roading unless I am on 33s and a roof rack I will rarely use.

Yes, the 4runner is very capable in its stock form. However, in defense of a few well chosen mods, a small lift and the right armor will make the 4runner a complete beast off road. At least in comparison to itself in its stock form. The increase in angles from a lift, and the confidence good armor brings to the table is worth the hassle.

I’ll admit, the hassle may not be worth it if you keep the 4runner long enough to where you no longer feel like dealing with the extra maintenance steps different mods will bring.

I agree with the armor and even like 1 inch front lift and new rear suspension when it’s due for a change.

I pretty much tell people that armor and tires are the biggest things. Suspension is usually a result of adding a crapload of weight.

    Don't forget light bars!
