Was greasing my prop shafts and noticed this tube had dry rotted. Not sure what it goes to or how serious of an issue it is.

Does anyone know what this goes to?

Looks like it may be a breather tube? If so, it should go up higher than that, maybe up to the engine bay? Hopefully someone else knows. I'd crawl under mine and look but I'm traveling at the moment.

I'd be a little concerned about water intrusion if you get into stuff that deep.

Breather hose for the transfer case actuator. Look for a nipple on the black plastic actuator case.

Cut off the dry rotted section. Spray some silicone lube on the hose end before putting it back on. Put a zip tie over it as a preventative measure.

Yep. Since there's no barb on the nipple, put a zip tie on the hose for better retention.

Is it actually dry rotted? That would be surprising since it’s only 4 years old.

It was cracking all over. I cut it back to the "fresher" rubber. I have around 90k miles so I'm not sure if these are prone to go bad around that mileage or not.

^I've seen it on here and on Tacoma World several times, but usually well after 10 years. I suspect most people don't notice it until enough water got into the actuator through the open nipple to cause a malfunction. Ehhh at least it's a $0 fix for you. The breather hose is the same common size as washer fluid hose, so it can use the same generic OReilly/Autozone unions and elbow fittings if the hose ever needs to be spliced farther downstream.

Didn’t know it was same diameter/thickness as washer fluid hose, good to know as i am in the 100k+ club.

^Yeah most washer fluid hose is sold as vacuum hose i.e. the type going from the fuel pressure regulator to the intake tube.
