    Hello!

I'm JD and I've been an owner of a 2018 SR5 4runner for a few years before having to sell it to buy a actual house (who needs that)!

But then I found a cheap little jewel in a 2007 4runner V8 and had its frame inspected before investing on it but now that I know it's fairly solid, I'll mostly be trying to put it back in a good running condition and hopefully keep it a good 10 years. Most urgent things are suspension and an overheating issue.

As a side note, I'm a self-taught "mechanic" and try to do everything I possibly can on my own and a consequence of that is? You guessed right, a lot of mistakes that bring back that question "why am I even doing this?" like breaking an extractor in a bolt in the frame. Now I gotta buy a lot of tools and learn to weld..... but hey that's part of the fun right?

Anyway, here's a pic of the current state of the project. Sorry for the mess, also had to improvise a place in a garage already full since we recently moved in and had to fit 3 houses into one!

    467802762_460167417143767_7345261424196418386_n.jpg

I'll go through the forums and post questions if I can't find my answer in existing threads!
    Cya!

Looks like your getting after it, by the inch it’s a cinch, chase down a single problem-fix it then move on to the next one. Welcome to the forum!

I worked out of PQ for a long time. Loved it, except in the winters.

Yeah winters here can be pretty harsh but once you get used to it (never) it becomes a bit more tolerable but never easier on the frames with all the salt we put on roads.

...^^^... I remember when my buddy bought a new Honda Civic and it had vinyl interior.

One early morning, it was about -25F or close to that. The car started, with a block heater, but, when I got in the car, the front seat popped and cracked with a big split.

Another time, in my first winter there, I was driving outside of Montreal on a quiet road and it was about -25F and my car started sputtering and stalled.

My gas lines froze  while I was driving, it is actually the moisture in the fuel tank. Learned a good lesson to put fuel anti-freeze in the tank at that
    temp and keep it full.

Some guy gave me some methanol and put it in the tank and waited 30 minutes and everything was OK, but I could have frozen to death on

that road with almost no traffic. I was very lucky that late Sunday night.

Another time, the TransCanada turned to ice driving from Montreal Dorval A/P to Drummondville, some guy hit my side and pushed me down into a
ravine, down behind a guard rail into a semi-dry creek, but the Subaru wagon dug it's way back up to the highway.

Another time, I did a 360 on an ice patch on a 2 lane straight back road and managed to keep it out of the ditches on both sides, very lucky again.

Love PQ in the winters ... lol

    I saw -44C in northern PQ ... at -40 F & C are the same

You resumed my usual day! :militarypress:
No but seriously, that's one of the main reason I want a runner. I know that in almost any condition I may encounter I'll be able to get my people to safety. I need it to be invincible!

Welcome! Are your exhaust manifolds cracked? Common problem with the 2UZ, usually starts with a tick when engine is cold.

Yeah the driver side is! Ordered Thorley headers 3 months ago and still no news, but no rush.

Main problem for now is overheating and I don't know where to start. Ordered a radiator cap, a thermostat and water pump. As soon as the suspension is done I'm gonna start with the radiator cap, see how it drives and go down the rabbit hole from there. Next is radiator and bla bla bla....
