Hey, I had the same issue. Thanks to 3JOH22A was able to sleep at night as I don't think it is anything critical to fix. Annoying for sure. Still have a screw that Dealer forgot to put in when they worked on my car but that's for another thread.

 

Looks like a thingamajig or a chingadera.

 

Imagine if you bought a GM vehicle, with random screws missing from the factory.

Well, I went to a Toyota dealership, and they looked under the seats and dashboard, then spent an hour on the computer looking for a part that matched what I found. Their conclusion was that it didn’t come from my 4Runner, it must have been stuck to my shoe at some point, from a parking lot or something. Since others on this forum have found the same thing, I think the dealer just wanted to get rid of me. May try another dealership, or not.

 

It's been a while since I pulled by driver kick panel off, but I think there's a plug to pull out. Is that what this is, the (mangled) plug?

 

Looks like the internet was a much more wholesome
place back then.
