I don't even use mine to commute and I put on around 22K miles per year. Of course I know I'm not even close to average. I've been averaging 45-50K miles per year between work and play for the last few years.

What can I say, I like “getting out there”. West coast to Maine a few times, lived in South Dakota, Colorado, Mexico, and Washington…several trips to Canada. Sister in NJ, parents in CA, brother in UT, and daughters in NM and KS. I drive to visit family for the weekend often, and I live in WA. It also helps that my grocery store is barely further than my parking space. But yep, I do me.:D

I would, but then I'd turn around and sell it at a premium to the same yahoo's who've been buying the 5th gen at a premium.

I got really lucky and bought in 2019 before pandemic supply chain issues and inflation. I've spent time and money unnecessarily modifying it to my liking. I plan to keep it until the wheels fall off just because I don't want ANY newer vehicle. I bought the 5th gen in 2019 because it was called a tech dinosaur, and because it was the most reliable midsized SUV for 10 years running at that time.

As far as JGC being nicer? My 2014 JGC is nicer than any 5th gen and probably 6th gen. Real wood and leather interior, lots of tech (if you're into that kind of stuff), air suspension that feels like riding on a cloud, and the hemi v8 is a blast to drive with the 8 spd and paddle shifters in sport mode. But it is has full independent suspension and can no longer compare to the 4runner offroad, and don't get me started on quality and reliability (why I bought a 4runner). My wife still drives it but at 130k or so miles we are one more expensive repair from getting something else to replace it. I have no idea what that will be but it won't be a 6th gen, mostly because I told her it will be her choice and she has no interest in 4runners

I'll be trying to keep my 18 TRD ORP as long as it runs. Love the now becoming classic look and mechanical simplicity of the 5th gens. Things progress and advance I get it (design and tech) but still prefer the previous gen Taco, Landcruiser and Sequoia also.
I'd like to see them in person when they hit the dealer lots, but I think it'll be a similar experience as going to see the new Landcruiser... meh.

I agree I think the new Honda Passport will draw a lot of attention. Old school guys that like a V6 will probably give it some consideration.

Honda may have a niche market with keeping their V6 engines in their lineup and not succumbing to the 4cyl turbo pressure.

Eager to see the Gen6 in person b/c pictures do not flatter it, they seem to “fatter” it. SR5’s w/giant black over-fenders covering roller skate wheels is a bad look that will require budgeting more cash for wheels & tires.

Personally not a fan of the Tacoma interior so that disqualifies me from purchasing a Gen6, but 15 years between redesigns is an eternity, so they’ll sell like hotcakes. At least initially, and with discounts.

I’ve driven the new Taco’s 2.4T. While I personally have owned & enjoyed many epic turbo fours, and this one feels responsive off the line & passing, it is also a whole new category of NVH that will make a lot of current 4Runner owners cringe at these prices. That it’s also relatively untested on a truck platform signals smart money to wait until we see some out on the road reliably pulling 100k+ miles.

Jeep interiors benefited from the time under Daimler. That center console and dash has Mercedes influence written all over it. A far cry from the dismal interiors of the past.

Last year my brother-in-law asked me to drive his WK2 Grand Cherokee, he felt a vibration in the front and he wanted to help me diagnose it. We jumped in it, just getting on the highway. I made it up to 80 before I realized it, and then I had to tell him I can't feel any vibrations, in fact, this thing is way smoother than my 4Runner.

The 3.6 is very well matched to the 8-speed Auto, and they are very smooth because they are basically just cars these days.

If I could accept not having a low range, I 100% rather have the new Passport than the new 4Runner.

With the low range requirement, the Bronco is now at the top of my list for an eventual 4Runner replacement.

I do 20k/yr on mine just commuting, unfortunately I haven't really gone anywhere in the last we should few years.

I really need to change that for 2025, I bought this thing thinking I would enjoy it on adventures, and I'm just miling it out using as a DD. Just hit 185k yesterday.

I have never owned a Ford. I have heard that they have questionable build quality for an American car. But I have no personal experience.

Seems like everything has questionable build quality these days.

I'm not actually going to buy one, but as far as desireabily it's at the top of my list.

Same here. I'll be driving my 2024 4runner until I am 90 years old. (Already age 71 dad gummit!)
In 10 years, California will allow no more sales of gasoline vehicles. My 2024 will be a collectors item

I'm with you, I think Chevy/GMC hit a triple, if they offered a v-6 in those trucks it would have been a home run. A turbo 4cyl in an American built truck is scarier than a Toyota built turbo 4.

Do you really think the majority of the market would prefer less power and worse fuel economy?

I actually haven’t heard anything bad about the 2.7T (L3B) other than being a turbo-4 and it’s been around since 2019ish.

I might even be willing to take it over a recent Ford 5.0 or 2.7T V6 with the wet oil pump belt. It seems like those haven’t been dying prematurely like in the 1.0 but I still don’t look forward to replacing it or knowing that time bomb is in there.

My qualms about the Colorado though are no physical light control and potentially shoddy software. (There was a famous manager claim along the lines of “all potential bugs have been eliminated” which is laughable to those in the field - and that issue with a bugged OTA update killing the battery as the truck sat.)

The Federal Safety regulations keep getting more complicated. I am not expert, but concerned. Trouble shooting erratic performance of the features can get expensive when warranty expires.

Yep if they are confident in these engines put the money where the mouth is and make the bumper to bumper warranties longer. Show me the warranty!

Number 11 is a surprising one. Tinkerers channel did a nice technical detail of the 4th gen tacoma. Lots of marketable actual good off roading design that toyota didn’t market. One of them was that they come with high angle CV axles. Surprised a lift would pull one apart. But maybe it was just a dealer saying the lift caused it.

Good point. If Hyundai and Kia can offer a 100K warranty then why can’t Toyota?

My favorite car besides the 4runner was a 99 Accord we kept for 24 years. Almost trouble free. Driver’s seat looked new as well. It’s one of the reasons I prefer fabric over leather, based on how well that fabric looked after so many years.

That is a strange one. They are claiming the lift caused the axle to pop out just backing out of a parking spot in 4WD. Wouldn’t a non lifted truck that flexes out dropping a wheel in a hole cause even more angles to the CV than the lift kit on flat ground?
