Getting in your car and driving to the grocery store can "cause potential issues", what issue is he referring to?

I’ve left my 4Runner sitting (albeit with a fully-charged battery) since Friday while I put some miles on a family CR-V that’s been sitting around.

Not sure yet when I’ll switch back but my SG II was left plugged in (IIRC) so we’ll see what I come back to. I’m not expecting any trouble yet.

It is toggleable but by default it powers off (“goes to sleep”) after engine RPM hits 0.

The scan gauge II is a bit old school compared to the ultra gage or some other options.

I chose it because it doesn't take up much space and its very simple once programmed. I currently have it monitoring voltage, coolant temp, transmission fluid temperature and torque converter temperature. Have it mounted with a 3D printed mount from Etsy. Works great!

He said driving a vehicle with something always connected to the obd2 port *sometimes* can confuse the Ecm. He’s had vehicles at the dealer that have had issues, specifically with insurance companies having you plug in the dongle in the obd2 port.

I’ve never had an issue, I’m not sure if he’s referring to “scanning and deleting” codes while driving or just having a diagnostic tool plugged in all the time can make things squirley. ‍♂️

Oops disregard. Overlooked you were looking for a standalone device.

Veepeak OBD 2 Bluetooth scanner paired with the OBD Fusion app. on my iPhone allowed me to monitor engine, coolant and the 2 tranny temps. as well as battery voltage my last trip as well as my 1st tranny drain & fill. Scanner $26 with a rating of 4.5 in over 20k reviews on Amazon and the app. was like $30 and has a rating of 4.7 in over 18k reviews in Apple’s apps. I only use the scan tool strictly to monitor not fiddle around tuning. And the scan tool is only plugged into the port during long trips not everyday daily driving.
