So do you still have your 4Runner? did it survive? I got a 2020 that make the same sound and it's getting worse 101000k
It didn't make that noise when it was new...
Of course dealer say that everything is normal...

My new 22 PRO doesnt sound like that at all. Mine so much quieter. Idk, seems like valve or lifters are clicking hard.

I would be annoyed as shit if mine was that loud

I thought the same thing with mine. Sounded like valve clattering. Turns out the fuel injectors are really noisy, which is the ticking sound I hear in mine. Hot or cold, still makes the noise at idle. Im sure its making it all the time, I just dont hear it after rpms increase.

One suggestion for quieting 4.0L engine is to run Mobil 1 EP oil, it is a lot quieter than standard Mobil 1 synth oil or other brand oils. Has more body to the oil.

This thread stale now at 4 weeks. But does your 4runner have its original oil or did someone change it. Remember dealers have 0W-16 oil on hand for the hybrids. Maybe your engine oil is thinner than the spec 0W-20.

Old thread but I searched for it because I have the same concerns. My 2024 TRD ORP sounds exactly the same at 1500 miles. What concerns me the most is when you let off the throttle and it rattles as the rpm’s descend. I was going to bring it to the dealership but I suppose this is a common characteristic of the engine and the solid lifters. It seems to be a common concern for 5th gen 4Runners
