Yes, it would be nice if they could just delete the post and PM a warning on the first offense.

 

Okay, I'm gonna be that anal retentive guy and discuss your freedom of speech. This bothers me because I hear SO many people whine about their "Freedom of Speech".

By definition "Freedom of Speech" means: Freedom of speech is the right to express ideas and opinions without government interference, punishment, or retaliation. It's protected by the First Amendment of the United States Constitution.

So, you have that on this site, because the government did not interfere with it. The moderators did. When you signed up for an account on this site, you agreed to abide by the rules and code of conduct. Because you broke said rule(s) you were punished accordingly.

Could the moderators be more flexible of give warnings? Perhaps. But they aren't obligated to do that at all. Just like a cop writing you a ticket versus writing you a warning. It's at their discretion.

 

Squabbling can reach proportions where it will cause forums to whither and die.

I think they have that.

 

And that, ladies and gents, is an absolute dumpster fire.

I was about to get to the same point, there are places that are "touted" as free speech areas. The /pol/ (politically incorrect) boards on a few different forums are touted as free speech areas. Places like Le'Reddit and others are absolutely full of everything you can imagine. Spitting, spewing, temper tantrums, conspiracy theor... truths, lies, misinformation, disinformation, dissemination, arguments, and insider leaks. There are monkeys throwing poop at the walls, and idiots scooping it up thinking its tootsie rolls and everything in between. Although these areas all have an appearance of free speech, dont dare say the wrong thing or you will still get banned. There is NOWHERE on the internet that is not policed, anything you say, anywhere you say it, is being watched and subsequently policed.

 

If a mod sees this, please fix my account! I tried using the contact form with no avail.

That's fine. But, maybe the COC could be easier to find. Maybe sticky it in the new members sub-forum? A lot of people have been banned without even knowing what they did.

Edit: I don't remember, but, does the COC pop up when one is joining? Maybe it's our fault for not looking at it when we're supposed to.

I have to agree with you. This site is a lot more relaxed than the others. I haven't been banned ONCE since I've been on this site (a little over a year now). When I was on TacomaWorld, I was banned three times during my tenure. I learned my lesson though of what not to do.
