I recently completed a trip through parts of Colorado and Utah at the end of September and early October. My son, who lives in Colorado, joined me for off-roading and hiking together. He went home once we finished in Colorado and I continued on to Utah to see Arches NP and Canyonlands NP. Here are some photos from my trip.

    Colorado

During this part of my trip we did Cinnamon Pass and the Alpine Loop. As part of our trip, we hiked a 14er and he made it to the summit at Handies Peak. I had to stop at 13,000 feet. Being from Florida the altitude got to me and I had to head back down. The weather was perfect the entire time. I even managed to get a picture of a moose my son spotted.

My last night camping here a massive windstorm with mild rain hit around 1:00 am. The wind blew so hard that the fine desert sand blew under my rainfly, up the wall of the tent and fell through the mesh netting at the top of the tent. Everything in my tent was covered in sand. It took a little over two hours in the morning to clean everything up. Below is a picture of the inside of my tent. I had left my shaving kit bag open. The blue square of floor is where my shaving kit was.

Been to the Moab area 5-ish times over the years. Never gets old. Canyonlands makes me think of the Grand Canyon, under construction. Thx for the pics.

That's awesome! Great photos, thank you for sharing.

One of these days I want to do a similar trip, it's a hike from Rhode Island, but I'd love to just take at least 2 to 3 weeks off of work and just head out west.

My son and I had a great time. I was fortunate to be able to take the trip. Usually his mom and I travel together to see him and his wife. But my wife had to take care of her mom, so she encouraged me to take a father & son trip. So it was just the two of us. He is our only boy, so it was definitely a memorable trip.

The moose was down in a valley about a 1/4 mile from us. The picture was taken with my phone and digitally enlarged,. We were not in any danger as we were on a road that was up the mountain.

I live in north Florida. It's 24 to 26 hours to Littleton Co. I gave myself 3 days to get there and 3 days to get home.
I had planned on being gone 3 weeks. But due to the hurricane coming to North Florida i cut my trip down to two weeks. I got home just as the hurricane was hitting NC. Got home in time to help with cleanup from storm.
