So all the older 5th gen ORP (or Trail Premium) models I see used online seem to have Softex seats in fantastic shape. They seem to hold up really well over time/miles. Is that everyone's experience that have put some real miles in the saddle, or am I just seeing dealer detail magic?

Our 2016 softex seats looked brand new when we sold it. It wasn't super old, but with decent use and two kids I expected it to show some sort of wear.

I sure hope so. Dogs prints and road salt (from the dogs) are all over mine right now!

50K on mine and they still look good. The driver's seat gets the most abuse by far, and I don't see a wear mark from getting in and out yet.

Please ignore the sand on the floor mat. :D

Along with the durability, does anyone with the Softex find the seats to get hot or not be very breathable? I'm trying to decide on my purchase and choosing between Softex and cloth. I am leaning towards Softex, but I do live in Northern NM where temps are cold in winter, but can be pretty hot in summer. Any insight would be appreciated.

I would not call them breathable. Heated seats are a perfect solution in cold temps, but in the summer you'll likely just have to find a way to keep the sun from shining directly on the driver's side at least haha.

I have 40K+ miles in mine and they look good as new still. As for breathability, I regularly park under the hot socal sun during summer and haven't really noticed a difference between softex and leather. Granted, I have ceramic tint in my 4R so that might be playing a role.

I've been using Meguiars VLR and Turtle Wax Lux leather.

Considering these are technically plastic seats you can use just about anything except acetone or adhesive removers on them. Leather conditioners are harmless yet pointless as leather has pores to absorb the conditioners. You can use water and dish soap in a spray bottle and get the about the same effect as any overpriced specialty cleaner.

Yes, they don't breathe very well. I'm no fan of them (although they are durable). My wife's SR5 base fabric seats are more comfortable IMO than my Softex.

    I use nothing...

When they get really dirty because I have gotten in with mud smeared all over my back (it happens!) I wipe them off with a wet rag.

Sorry guys, I know this is an old thread. I was just curious if anyone bothered to put covers on their seats. Are they that durable?
This will pretty much be my DD, but it will see a lot of sand, dirt, mud, blood, and sweat on the seats when I am out playing. I haven't really seen anyone playing around with covers. Am I good to go with the factory seats? I would like to keep them as nice as possible le of course....

I have put about 92,000 miles on my 2018 and the seats still look great. I have not been easy on them. I frequently get them dusty and muddy, and I have a (frequently muddy) 70 lb lab that lives in the back. No real wear that I've noticed. I thought I might buy some seat covers when I bought the 4Runner, but I'm actually glad I didn't. These are easier to clean, and appear to last longer than any seat cover that I've ever owned.

mine are still flawless on my 65K SR5P. except that stupid 2 tone silver BS. wish they would've just stuck to the same all black softex in all models, like the cloth.

But still able to wipe shit off like nothing. and holds up to the pit bull's eagle talons.

NE Runner and Steely, you guys don't have covers in the rear and let the dogs straight on them? Damn, that shows some durability. That's some good news.
