sorry to hear about the issues with yours but I just recently bought a 21 venture hoping to have the sunroof option but ended up with the only one in my area and it didn't come with a sunroof wish i had one. my car came without a sunroof and kdss, i got the worst of the bunch in my opinion there were no additional options on it at least could have gotten a rear sliding deck lol.

Not normal. I can definitely see the entire thing move up and down when it passes under the blower. I often leave my shade open through the car wash because my son likes watching through all the windows, and it doesn't budge an inch. If you cannot reset its home position or find out what's causing it not to sit flush, make the dealer correct it, find a new dealer, or get a new truck for your trouble.

Hey! So, not really much of an update... Im not even sure the dealer looked at it... they told me that there wasn't much that they could do about it and that they still could not re-produce the issue. Go figure. But the dude at the dealership was kind of an ass to begin with. Im going to try the reset today on my lunch break. I didn't get the chance to do much this weekend. But I'm going to take it to another dealership with the video and show them... one thing I did notice is that the seal on the sunroof seems to be a little warped and you cant see it from the outside but you can feel it from the inside. I'll get the new dealership to touch and feel that as well and see what they think. I will have more updates hopefully today!

you're about to learn that working with any auto manufacturer in this type of situation is nearly impossible to do. I spent 2 months and 4 visits, filled out Lemon Law paperwork, appealed to Toyota and was told to go pound sand when I had leaking roof on a brand new 2020 RAV4. Ended up trading it in because I knew it would NEVER work correctly.

Toyota expects some defects based on volume...and they have deeper pockets and more staff to keep you at arms length. By all means keep fighting...however anyone who tells you they'll eventually make it right were either lucky or not being honest. It sucks for sure.

I'd tell the dealer that if I'd wanted a vehicle that leaks I'd have bought a Jeep. LOL

I’m just curious how he thinks that this is normal in any universe.

I would take it to another dealer.

Try to reset first, it may be simple as that.

They may have to remount the sunroof or just put a new one which is more time intensive but it’s still not a huge deal.

Once again, it is NOT normal for it to leak, even when using those hurricane blowers from the car wash.

And I guarantee you that these trucks were meant to be put through a car wash.

The dealerships in Colorado even have their own car washes to get the salt off off before servicing them.

I have seen the guy responsible for washing the trucks every morning at the dealership put a pressure washer to a sunroof and that barely puts a little bit of water in. That’s how tight these things are supposed to be.

I would make sure you keep everything well documented. Keep a spreadsheet with dates of service and attach PDF's of all invoices from dealer. I would not allow any dealer to NOT give you paperwork written with your issue and what they found or did not find. I helped an old girlfriend with a Saturn Vue years ago who had so many issues over the first 4 months and I took it to dealer and kept a log. Having that spreadsheet and PDF's next to each service date helped immensely.

Ultimately, GM ended up buying it back under the lemon law. It had 25 dealer visits within 4 months all for various engine/stalling issues as well as yes a moonroof leak. It had so many issues a dealer sent it to a GM proving grounds to a team of engineers and they finally said uncle.

I must have been crazy to help an old girlfriend like that, then she cheated, crazy how people treat others.

You're in Houston?! Go see Thomas at Offroad Alliance just to take a peak. He'll guide you!
The best Toyota dealership I've dealt with was Tejas Toyota in Humble, in the shop there's a guy named Eric. He is the best! He even did a special test on my moonroof after my rig was involved in a hit in run....probably more like a smash and run. But anyways reach out to me if there's anything I can assist with. Toyota fam sticks together!!!

Find a new dealership. The one you're going to right now doesn't deserve your time.

If they use those brushless wash and use high pressure water stream to wash then I can see some water can make it past the seals and bounce around a bit. The rubber gaskets are intentionally not set to be totally water proof so it doesn't bind when opening/closing.

I didn't want sunroof but in my area it was impossible to find an OR without, so I don't use it in automatic washes.

LoL. I had little drops of water splashed when I go through brushless car wash. I claimed warranty and fixed it.

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
In 2022 we waited +6 months to get a ORP in AG or LR without a moonroof which seemingly became impossible. We finally gave up and took one with a moonroof. I know from past experience a solid roof doesn’t leak.

I too search for TRD ORP with no moonroof. Didn't have luck.

My SR5 was no moonroof. Absolutely love the extra headroom, more safety (especially with hail here in CO), better isolating head and cold.

No update. Honestly, I kinda just gave up. I just don't go through the automatic car washes anymore. I bust out the step ladder and do it myself at home. Takes a bit more time, but it gets the job done.
