Paying attention to routine maintenance is a huge factor (engine oil, transfer case/pumpkin oil, repack/replace wheel bearings, timing belt…)

Routine inspection of all things underbody (driveshaft/u-joints, steering and suspension components)

At high mileage it’s all about having a good mechanic to help point out any thing in terms of “…this may need to be refurbished/replaced soon…”, “…keep an eye on this…” You know your vehicle, your eyes, ears, hands and feet keep you connected to it more than you may realize.

My 2000 Limited, still going strong when I sold her.

My advice is to be wary of dealers. I prefer to observe my SR5 when worked on. Dealers hide your truck when in the service bay.
Quality independent shops will give a better value.
I use a tire shop for tires , balance & rotation. Sometimes suspension parts. My independent all around shop I use for most everything else.
Consider the Premium AAA membership card with 200 miles towing included. Older vehicles give surprises sometimes.
    Where are you located?
