That's probably very true. I think I'm able to enjoy less gear hunting and my OEM gears because I haven't loaded mine down with much weight over OEM. If I had all the OL gear and skid plates on mine I'd likely need a gear change too. If and when I add that kind of weight I'll see where I'm at. Right now, the Maggie is all I need.

It is not the same obviously, but it helps a ton. The problem of this truck is not lack of horsepower, Wrangler has same hp/torque but runs circles around the 4Runner. Problem is the pathetic 3.73 and 5 spd.

You're right the problem is not lack of horsepower, it's lack of torque in the lower RPM's. This is what makes them feel sluggish and gear hunt and that is only made worse when you add bigger tires or more weight. The regear helps mask this as it causes you to run higher RPM's to achieve the same MPH or acceleration. The supercharger address this by adding 40-60 pound feet of torque at 2000+rpm.

And regear helps. Yes I have to be at 2500 rpm for 60 mph. But I stay in gear going from 65 mph to 80 mph and I hardly feel it, it is smooth. Things get even more awesome on the trail. My crawl speed is low now and I love it. Supercharger is awesome but maybe OP doesn't need that much. Maybe a regear is all he wants. A good friend of mine just bought a Wrangler Rubicon with 4.88 from factory. Crazy for 33 inch tires, but he is loving it lol.

It's not really an apples to apples comparison when a Jeep is brought in. They have an 8 speed transmission to go along with the 4.88's so its tolerable. 2500rpm@60mph does not sound like a good time to me. I'm sure the benefits on the trail are amazing and I'm jealous, but the tens of thousands of miles I spend on normal roads going 55+ to get the places where I'd enjoy the 4.88's are why I wouldn't go with 4.88's. That's the beauty of the supercharger, it gives you power and doesn't change the RPM's we drive around at. I think the dream setup would be 4.56's with the supercharger. You get the benefits of both and minimize the RPM penalty. Obviously there's is no one size fits all solution so everything is about compromise.

I got both the 456 and the Supercharger! And feel still slow, J/K.

Preference guys, to be honest, the stock is fine too. You know the fact is, this is a truck and meant for slow driving and not compromising reliability. If I had to do it all over again, I would have gotten a landcruiser and be done.

Does this 4.0L like being supercharged? It sure is on my list of things to do, but will take me a while. Man if I could squeeze 400 horsepower out of this thing.
I have Jeep background, and the Pentastar sucks being supercharged

My .02. I just finished the install and second road test. The install was easy enough, only minor issue i came across was pulling the crank bolt out. The cordless impact i had, didn't cut it. Not wanting to pull the radiator... And the bumper cover to use my larger impact, i bought a new Milwaukee. I know it's only 6lbs of boost, but i expected more. The power was there, but it came on slow can't complain about the shifting as it's smooth as silk. After plugging my Shiftpower module back in and advancing the throttle by 30%, the truck launches when the go peddle is pushed. Guessing the Magnuson tune keeps the stock minivan shift parameters. Very happy with it the way it is now, but will tweak it on a dyno if i can find a reputable shop.

The magnuson tune is very conservative. You should check out YotaWerx or OTT and get a good tune. Power is there instantly (like a supercharged application should be)

Tracking, but with me running the Shiftpower module the power is there. Not sure spending money on another box tune/flash would be worth it. If all they do is adjust the throttle response.

I would let the system settle first and get at least 5K in it without any changes. The ECU is supposed to get adjusted over time with your driving habits. Only after, I would add the tune. You will then see the difference with Maggie Tune vs what the other vendors have. I got the OTT and man, what a difference. Of course, I put in 30K on the maggie first, maybe I went too far but only then I could tell a difference. Good luck with the SC! Now you need to upgrade Breaks......Go with the Powerbrake Kit!!:spending:

There’s fuel/timing oddities and other stuff that affects the power band using the mag tune. Depending on your year there may also be a transmission tune

Timing and fuel tables have to be adjusted. This is why the Magnuson SC comes with a tune.

    It is required

Magnuson, YotaWerx, and OTT are the only ones I know of that have supercharger tunes. Magnuson is super conservative until you go WOT. YotaWerx has lots of low down torque and I’ll try OTT to get more information on it but people love it as well.Magnuson does not alter shift points or logic at all, #1 reason for a tune is power but easily #2 is the shift logic and shift points that come with it.

From what I read and seen on here. Ott Is the absolute way to go for a tune with the maggy charger. They have dyno sheets of huge power increases over the mag tune. If I spent the money for a supercharger I'd go with the ott tune. After installing the charger and ott tune I'd find myself a dyno and see what numbers actually was put down. I mean shit you spent 7k for the charger what's a grand more?

Come visit our SLC development facility (and maybe Moab while you’re here) and we can get your 4Runner on the dyno with all the OTT tweaks for just $300 over the price of the tune.

7k? you mean more like 9K. The OTT is a hell of a tune for this unit. I got the tune on the Taco but wasn't that impress, but on the 4R, the thing goes now!!

Anyone use a switched power source for the intercooler pump? I noticed running it off the ACC drops voltage quick.

The pump pulls a fair bit of juice, i would run it on a relay from the battery and use ACC as the trigger for the relay.

Any one running a winch on a "Lo-Pro" bumper? Looks like one would have to route the inter cooler pump at a minimum.

As advertised on another thread, I ended up changing the tensioner and the pulleys on the Maggie a couple of weeks ago. The tensioner had a bad vibration (at idle) and I was able to validate this with a stethscope. I will upload a video although it might a bit hard to hear and the quality not the best. The pictures shown are the pulleys and bad tensioner after 30K miles, one of the issues I saw was lots of fine dust and dirt in the bearings (my offroading in dry/overheated texas). You don't have to do this but I'm going on a long trip and figured I get this out of the way before it gets louder and leaves me out stranded.

I was thinking about going the sc route but I have DT headers already installed. Not sure if adding sc would workout in my best interest or not. Does anyone else have headers with sc installed and if so how's it working out for you?

I haven't heard of to many people running headers. Was there much of a increase?

But if the exhaust is less restrictive the supercharger should scream a little harder.

I believe 25 ish but it feels more top end hp added. Sounds great though.

Eibach stage 2, load lifter kit, Maggie w/ OTT tune... Other stuff.
What headers did you go with? Doubt they would be an issue, but may require a custom tune would be my guess. Just to confirm AF ratios.

I went with DT headers. I feel like the last thing i need to do is the maggy install. Just wanted to see if anyone else has ventured this far.
