I want to replace the built-in USB port with a USB-C port for faster charging. Will CarPlay still work if I do this? Also has anyone done it and if so what did you use?

Would simply changing the USB port style improve charging? I would think that it would have more to do with the voltage going to the port than it would the port itself. Sorry, I don't know the answer to your question, but it seems to me like it would not be worth the hassle.

If it were me, I'd probably get a USB-C port that fits in one of the factory blanks and wire it direct to the battery (fused, of course) so that you could charge regardless of whether the truck was powered on or not.

I want to do basically the same thing except for Android Auto (AA). I want to replace the standard media USB port with a 3.0 quick charge data port. This way I can use AA while quick charging my phone. I have been on many long trips on a standard USB while running Wazes and playing music from my phone. The standard USB has a hard time keeping the phone charged. I have a 3.0 USB that plugs into the 12 volt socket to quick charge, but then I loss the AA.

    Hope someone can help.

I would stick with your current charging setup and get one of these to connect wirelessly to Android Auto.

Seems like a good alternative. Then you can buy USB-C specific cig lighter plug and you get your high power juice.

I could do that, for $90.00 and have the adapter taking up space somewhere. Plus it would be adding an additional point of failure. I have seen reviews saying their adapter somethings drops out.

I'm not giving up just yet.

Well then why the F****** you asking us for help? Point of failure, god have mercy. You are not flying a 737 Max. First-world problems.

    Good luck brah.

That's interesting that you've seen those reviews, since it was just released a week ago today. The people here who have ordered one have not even received it yet.

On a side note I hate some vehicles come with USB C. I prefer traditional USB port for charging and media.

In fact I prefer regular 12v circular outlets on my 4R so I could use fast charging flush type chargers and get 4 charging ports rear.

I asked a simple honest question. Looking for someone who may have wanted to do the same thing. But instead I get replies from people who have nothing better to offer but sarcasm. I guess if that's what you need to do to feel better about yourselves have at it. Or maybe you should stay out of it unless you have something intelligent to say. But I don't see that happening anytime soon.

My comment was not in scarcasm. Your response to Lou and I's suggestion was douche-baggy and smart-ass. So I called you out for pissing on his suggestion and my liking it.

People here are enthusiasts. Its in our interest of helping you. No need to go on a rant on why the suggestion you were offered wont work. Especially when Lou researched a tool, and im only stating the obvious.

    Good day to you sir.

You can use a wireless charger to fast charge from the Power port/cigarette lighter jack...That doesn't need to cost $90 and you can connect the USB cable for AA as you currently do.

I used a usb-a to usb-c cord in my Runner and the apple car play works fine but I’m having issues with the volume when playing music. I’m also interested in changing my runner usb

This is the thread I was looking for but not the responses
Forget about charging! That is not the question or concern
The ability to continue to utilize the Toyota Car Play by plugging in the phone to the USB adapter was and is the question
The very last post stated that they bought a USB A to USB C adapter but then went on to complain about having difficulties with their speakers

Has anyone come up with a working solution to continue to use Car Play with an IPhone 16 and its USB C cable requirements

If you don’t have a solution there is no need for a response
    Thank you!

    .

I am looking for the same thing on a iPhone 16 Pro max on a 2024 SR5

FWIW ... I did get an adapter cable for another use .. B-C and it had an interesting note attached to the cable ... it basically said ...

"If it did't work, flip the cable over"
