Long time lurker. I've been on tworld and tundras for a few years and am now venturing into the 4runner world. I have a new 2024 OR that I'm playing with, but this problem is with the wife's 2015 Limited. She rarely drives it, so it only has 33k easy miles on it. It recently threw a p0019 code (camshaft position sensor, bank 2, sensor B). I checked the sensors and even switched them on bank 2 and cleared the code, still threw a p0019. I checked/cleaned the OCV's and they appear to operate fine. The only thing I didn't check was the crankshaft sensor as it's buried behind the alternator and I ran out of time. The car is now at the dealer and they want to pull the valve covers to inspect the timing chain. Before I authorize that, I wanted to see if anyone on here has encountered this issue before. I find it hard to believe there is a problem with the timing chain. The 4runner runs perfectly and there is no abnormal noises coming from that area. Any thoughts?

At the very least I’d want them to check the crank position sensor first, and only open things up if the sensor itself is not the problem.

I would start by looking for rodent damage to the wiring.

I agree, thanks for the reply!

I did do this and found nothing. It was my first thought. Thank you!

I just watched a video where the mechanic explains the oil control valves are known to stick intermittently, causing a variety of codes including this one. Cleaning and testing won't necessarily fix the problem, he recommends just changing them. They are easy to change, so I may do that and the crankshaft sensor.

Besides the check engine light, are there any other symptoms that would quantify this code? Rough idle, stalling, no start, etc?

I don’t know if this video will be helpful or not. May be with a look.

No other symptoms at all besides the light on. It starts, runs, and idles perfectly. Gas mileage is the same, everything seems perfect. That's what makes me think it's not the timing chain, but the OCV or a faulty sensor.

Thank you for the video, that is something I may end up doing.
