    Hey Guys,

Recently my 4Runner has started to give trouble. I'm not sure if it helps but there was some heavy rain in the area when this began to happen. I took it off-roading and noticed that from 0-10 mph it would almost hold me back and not want to shift or accelerate.

Not too long after a VSC Trac, Engine Light and Traction Control Light came on. Does anyone know what this issue could be? I have checked Youtube for fixes but nothing is straight forward and everyone seems to have a different issue than mine.

When I ran the computer on it, it showed codes:
    P2716
    P0751
    Some Solenoid codes.

Knowing your model year, mileage, and engine (V6 or V8) is helpful when seeking advice. Also, were you in 4WD on the trail when this happened?

These are transmission codes. Has your fluid ever been changed? Can you check the level? I can't remember if '05s have a transmission dipstick. My '07 doesn't.

What happened on the trail sounds like it could be "limp mode." From the web: "Limp mode is a car security feature that activates when a fault is detected, reducing speed and switching off non-essential functions. It is triggered by abnormal signals from car components, such as faulty sensors, transmission issues, or low fluid levels." The "non-essential" functions may be why you got VSC & traction control lights. Those systems are sometimes disabled as a precaution. For example, I had an LED headlight fan cause a ground fault in the ABS system (sounds crazy but it's really a thing) and those lights came on with the brake system light. Note that these are just my thoughts based on some research. I'm not certain what's going on and am not an expert or mechanic.

05's don't have dipstick, I went down and checked the level as well as quality and everything seemed good. I just drained it a lil bit. I'm going to have someone check the solenoids pretty soon to see if that's really the issue. Do you know how I pump the transmission fluid back in? Thanks for your feedback & help.

You're welcome. We all help each other here.

We have a member named @J.A. and bookmarking his website would be a great idea. He has a wealth of useful information. For example, this writeup on doing a transmission drain and fill will tell you everything you need to know, from the proper way to check the fluid level to how to add fluid.

You may be familiar with the fluid check process, but how did you check it? Asking b/c it's complicated with having the fluid in the right temperature range and so on.

I turned it on for a bit, let it warm up and just drained, let some if it leak out and noticed the quality was good.

When you say you..."let it warm up and just drained, let some if it leak out and noticed the quality was good..."..there are 2 plugs on the pan, a "drain plug" and a "level check plug" which plug did you remove to let it drain out?

Also what part of the country are you in, or more importantly which part of the country has your T4R spend most of it's life in?

I used the drain plug. I am from the Cayman Islands, it's a really hot place.
