Hi fellow 4Runners! I have a 2005 4runner v8 Limited with 297000kms. My rear shocks are in need of replacement and the front probably too. I was thinking maybe now would be a good time to just take out the x-reas systems if I am going to replace these components. I don't know anything about cars and just wondered what would be the cost of doing something like this. I don't do any offroading. Just use the car to drive on paved road locally. I see a lot of mention about Bilstein 4600 and 5100. Has anyone removed this and can tell me what is the approximate cost? Also if you live in Toronto area, was there a place you would recommend? I would need to hire someone to do this as I am not handy with cars.
    Thanks.

    Welcome,
Sorry no experience in 4th gen lift install nor live in Canada. But mind if I ask a question?

Do you know the XREAS needing to replace are original / the ones came with the vehicle new? They served you almost 300,000KMs?

I replaced XREAS on my 5th gen when it was almost new because I wanted a lift. At a relatively expensive 4x4shop here in Denver CO a lift install was about $750 labor and an extra $100 to remove xreas. (US$)

Yes, they are the original. I just had the original air springs (air bags) for the air suspension replaced last week so that lasted me almost 300,000kms too. The XREAS has not given out or anything. I'm not even sure it needs to be taken out right now. A mechanic that was looking into why my car rear was sagging (because leak in air springs) and mentioned that my XREAS was also leaking. I was told those are two separate issues so I decided to address the most pressing one first - air springs. I was told I could keep my air suspension and still get rid of XREAS.
