Engine whining noise

    Does it change with RPM?
    My guess a bearing on engine front. Do you have serpentine belt? Generally easy to take off. Carefully sketch or photo its exact pattern. Find the tension and idler pullies. Following procedure ease tension and slip belt off.
    Spin by hand the tension pully feeling for noise, roughness or wobble etc. then spin idler pully & check same.
    Then inspect water pump (not sure about 4th gen), Alternator, power steering pump.(do not know details of 4th gen) maybe have their own belts?
    Hopefully you can find a worn out noisey bearing.

    Agree with the above re: possibly a belt pulley bearing. How many miles on your truck?
