Something broke and the lock on my hatch got pushed in (pic below). Anyone have instructions on how to fix this?

I've seen this before. The hatch trim piece is the hardest trim piece I've ever removed (and I was unsuccessful, I cracked it) and I've removed or partially removed every trim piece along the drivers side from the footwell to the rear vent in the cargo area. The clips that hold it on are strong, Toyota gives you nowhere to pry, it's very large, and all the clips are located in away from the edges.

And when you do finally get into the hatch all the rear window stuff is right in the way to make nothing easy. The good news is it shouldn't be too expensive to fix depending on what is wrong.

    Have fun.

I was able to remove the trim successfully and found this plastic piece (see pics) floating around loose. I'm not sure if this is broken or if it just came loose. I have to use force when closing the tailgate to get it to latch which likely created this problem. Can anyone tell me if this piece is broken or simply needs to be put back? If it's not broken and can be put back, any tips on that would be much appreciated.
