Amen to that. Dumbest oil change ever.

The lack of a opening in the dirt shield and insistence to use a cartridge filter are some stupid choices.

I can do an oil change on my other cars in 1/4 of the time I spend on the 4Runner. My XV20 camry with the 5SFE is the best one, the filter is right behind the front grill as you open the hood looking at you.

Too many mods and too much money
Back in 2015 I began this odd journey after purchasing my 12', starting with a membership to an internet forum, followed quickly by a Parts addiction, daily OCI discussions, and the STUPID oil filter canister behind 4 dealer stripped skid plate fasteners!!
Shortly after that I bought an aftermarket SP with an access panel.
Been a good ride though. LE loves to stretch her legs.

Firsts for me with the 4R (bought a '21):

-1st push button start - takes some getting used to - was coming from a '19 RAV AWD with a key ignition - paranoid am going to lose the "key"/remote
-1st part time 4WD - always had AWD vehicles - will take some getting used to
-1st body on frame vehicle - had SUVs in the past but they were all unibody
-1st with the the buttons/display to open my garage doors- always had the remotes that came with the GDOs
    -1st dark grey vehicle
-1st vehicle with "near" leather seats et la softex - always had cloth
-1st vehicle with a sunroof - not a fan of them - didn't really have a choice - the majority on the used market I looked at had this feature
-1st "lifted" vehicle - will take some time getting used to - hopefully I don't break my neck - lol - although it did come with side rails

First truck on frame for me.
LED lights, can't say I love them, would rather they used HIDs due to too-white color of LEDs. Visible tab also bothers me. Blinding other drivers also bother me.
Spare tire that you have to lower down on a chain.
Side steps that are in the way of using a regular jack.
Oil filter change procedure that is nuts. I only have ramps, so it is major drawback in doing maintenance myself.

First vehicle without a key. Still haven’t found a good spot for the FOB. It’s uncomfortable to keep in my pocket.

First time I’ve had to deal with wiper controls on the right side. When it rains, I first turn my lights off by habit, then twist the wiper handle, only to have the rear wiper come on. It’s made worse due to my work truck having them on the left.

Always wanted one; now I finally have one.
    Can't stop smiling.
This thing will be babied...until we ask her to work.
I'll no longer hate going to the dealership for service, because consistent service is key to a long life with these vehicles.

And that I rejected TWO placed orders for new Ford trucks, both of which were delivered to the dealership, simply because I had "a feeling." ALWAYS listen to your gut.

Wow, and I thought my 19 was low mileage at 26,350.

It's not for sale either. No way no how.

I had an 06 Tundra DC as well. I love my 4Runner but I miss that truck more than anything I've ever owned. It wore like a piece of iron. Never should have sold it. It had 100K on it after 10 years, looked and drove like brand new. I loved that 4.7.

I can't think of anything that is a first regarding my current 4Runner other than it's my first 4Runner with a V6. My 03 had the 4.7 and was more feature packed than my 19 SR5P as it was a Limited.

I don't know why, but some LED headlights I can see the frequency that they operate at. Being able to see the high speed flicker drives me nuts!

First vehicle with sticker that says 100 percent Japanese part content and ZERO percent US/Canadian part content.

First vehicle assembled in Japan as well

I don’t imagine why you don’t see more of these in Detroit.

    This ^^^. :)

My first car (in my life) was a 1974 4-cylinger Pinto that had been ridden like a rented mule and I am pretty convinced it could beat my 4Runner in a drag race.

That said, 4Runner is also the first car I have loved this much.

My first automatic trans. Not necessarily by choice. I had a 96 4Runner that was a 5 speed, and when it retired I switched to Tacomas for a generation, now back to the 4Runner with the only trans choice.

My 2004 GTI had a tape desk which was awesome. I got one of those tape you plug into your iPod and use to play it in the car without a headphone jack.

My '06 Land Cruiser has a tape deck and a 6-disc CD changer. Cutting edge tech straight outta the '90s!
