Help...Dilemma? Morimoto Lights + other lights (10AMP - INJ)

Hello folks,

Hoping to get some help if any of you know anything about electricals and connecting lights to the fuse box.
I have a 2024 4runner TRD ORP.
Trying to hook up both Morimoto XB EVO headlights + Fang lights.
Both of these light instructions call to use the 10A-INJ fuse slot. Unfortunately I only see 1 slot for the 10A-INJ in the fuse box.

What is the best/safest and reasonable way around this since I need two slots but only one available? My electrical knowledge = very low.

Tread carefully. I’ve seen more than a few problems posted on the forum from accessories that call for tapping power from the INJ slot. Apparently the ECU monitors some circuits very precisely and you can end up with real problems. Also there’s more than a few accounts of morimoto lights turning on in the middle of the night because the 4runner ecu runs certain diagnostic routines a few hours after shutoff. Not sure why they don't recommend running its own power circuit and a safer spot to draw ignition switch signal for a relay. Drawing anything from the injector circuit doesn’t seem to be the best idea to me.

 

Yikes...haven't heard about this in any forums until now. Is there a way to route around this issue? Will a relay help?

 

I’d do a search on this forum on morimoto headlights for any possible ideas. Since I’m not sure how how their wiring harness is designed, I can’t say for sure if they are using the 10 amp INJ slot to power the lights, or if they are only using to provide a switched signal for relays. Either way might be bad, but if it’s being used for pulling power for the lights directly, it would make me extra nervous.

I’d imagine they are probably using the inj circuit because it’s an easy circuit to use based on their harness? I don’t know. But I think the safest ways to do this would be to run a dedicated fused 12v power circuit directly from the battery, and then using a less risky source for signal current for the relays…like maybe tapping the 12v swtiched accessory circuit inside the cabin. Anything to avoid drawing power from a circuit being monitored by the Engine ECU.

Even if you used the a 12v accessory slot from the interior fusebox to run the relays, there might still be risks (unless you know the electrical system inside and out). But I’d take a guess that the 4runner doesn’t monitor that circuit for precise amperage draw, since by design it powers devices with a wide range of amp draw.

 

I ran a T harness off the front 12V outlet. This keeps it after the fuse so all OEM circuits are protected as intended. The tap is run to a 30A relay for any circuits that I want on when the vehicle is on or in accessory. I would not use an add a fuse.
