yes I am. But I am not claiming that a discussion should not be allowed by posting in that same discussion. If people on here really did not like it they should not post in it or better yet they could get over thinking that they get to decide what is allowed or not.

I am now using Valvoline Restore and Protect instead of Toyota OEM oil.

Worst thing is, the OP threw out the OCI grenade and was never heard from again.

You must care about it a little. Why else did you keep posting?

I think the OEM filters are the best bang for the buck. They are cheap, easy to get and seem good quality.

It sometimes happens when a new member gets responses by older members that think they run the forum and lambast the OP for asking a question.

I keep an extra “oil filter cap” (i.e. filter housing) around just in case it cracks when removing it.

I am not sure you know how this works.
You keep quoting me. If you quote me, you are going to get a response.
When you get a response , you revert by saying I am participating in the oil thread.
This is getting repetitive with you. But wait, I use OEM filters too. After 4 pages we finally found a common ground.

I am not sure you know how this works. I keep quoting what you say to point out that nothing you said has been helpful in this thread. For some reason you believe that no users can ask a question that you do not believe is worthy. It’s that type of attitude that kills off forums as new users see your type of response and just give up. if a new users wants to ask an oil question let them. If you don’t like it don’t participate in the discussion and move on to some other discussion that you do like. My assumption at this point is that you really do like to post in oil discussions or more likely you can’t stand to not have the last word. I am thinking the latter is the real answer and proves my idea above.

I am thinking of using an oil analysis service to make sure the filter and oil I am using is correct for the 4.0.

I had my oil changed at 1,500 on my own dime to save my included service with purchase. Stupid me, cost me $90 at the Dealership.

I have personally torn down engines with 3k, 5k , 7.5k, 10k, and 15k miles intervals and the number 1 thing that makes a difference is oil quality and what cleaners/additives the oil has. You can do as many 1 - 3k intervals you want but if you use havoline your engine will look awful. On the other hand if you use motul or liquimoli (super high quality oil with extremely high evaporation temp threshold) on a N/A engine and go 10k miles it will still look brand new. I’ve done at least 800 engine rebuilds/teardowns when I was a technician so take that for what it’s worth. I use LiquiMoli and go 10k miles and I’m 100% certain that at 300k miles my engine will look just as good or better than those that do 3-5k intervals with lower quality oil (even good ones like Mobil 1)

Do you have a link to these studies that you performed for peer review? Sounds like some very interesting reading based off of your post.

So did nobody get the part about the quality of the gas and it’s additives combined with quality oil working together?

I only watched about half the video. Could somebody bottom line it for me? Does he recommend using premium fuel all the time? Because that’s a non-starter.

    Correct.

    Especially at current prices.

I run Chevron all the time, but not premium. The cost is bad enough as is.

Edit: I think Techron should do just as well.

well there is the Mobil study, and the fact that I physically worked with and saw for myself. And the fact that every car I’ve owned for the past 15 years have gone 7.5 - 10k in between oil changes. All high hp/tq turbo engines and absolutely zero issues. Many studies exist, a simple google search will show that. But also, engineering explained did an in depth video about this topic.

Hard to say. He alludes to premium having a better additive package but never really says it outright. Also while explaining that Europe has gas in the same octane with basic or premium additive packages, the picture they show clearly has a fuel at 95 octane and the other at 99. So frankly, I don't know what to make of it.

I'll stick with 87. I've sold cars with 250k on them using 87 and I didn't sell due to any mechanical failure.

I always fill with the medium, like 89, or whatever the medium happens to be in odd places. There is absolutely zero logic or study behind my choice. I do it because I feel like I am putting at least some effort into keeping my engine happy, without going full millionaire mode on the supreme. I fill my jerrycans with supreme, however, since in my pee brain it seems like a higher-quality gas will fare better when it sits for a long time.

I have recently started using premium all the time. Either Shell or Exxon. At current prices, it does not pinch me and I have a reassuring feeling I am putting something that my engine would appreciate. By all logic, it could care less.
I have felt a slightly better throttle response on the highways but could be placebo. Who knows . I will continue to use it.
