That's a great deal on the plano case. I think those are only about .5" or 1" taller than the harbor freight case and look pretty tough!

I can understand the range anxiety, I've had that same issue in the larger national forests. If you have to relocate your spare, I would recommend getting a swingout though.
Having that weight up top is a little sketchy imo. These rigs are already pretty tippy. Keeping that center of gravity low helps a lot.

When I tubed my rear bumper I almost added a swingout... but my 34" full size spare does fit in the factory spare tire location so I never pulled the trigger on it.

Range anxiety is a one thing. Being able to travel farther, having more range, have fewer limitations and save more time is another. Seems like nobody gets it. And Another thing is that I have got a small trailer.

 

I get it. Took a trip some years back across a large swath of the North Rim/Escalante/Grand Parashant. It's not range anxiety but range awareness. We had 400 miles to cover and about a 300 mile range on the trucks. Going for gas would have been a 100 mile or more proposition and would have spent at least a day. So we all had to come up with our own individual solution. As much as I might Jones over an aux tank, it's just not the answer for me. But I do envy you finding a way to make it work for you.

 

Eylar has rotomold like the pelican overlands but cheaper. Also, alibaba can get you the exact same roam case for half the price. Its all made in china. Also pelican has an affordable rifle case thats nice. Its the one with the orange accents. Fyi, the orange is removable with a screwdriver

 

I really like that 80% bumper and the whole minimalist approach. If/when I do anything about bumpers that one is a top contender without the swing out. I really want to try to keep the spare in the stock location.

Yes, that aux tank really works for me. I am single with dogs, so that is perfect for me. Convenient. On the other hand, All those years I was using jerry cans and they are really well suited for long distance trips to nowhere....I think there is no perfect, the only solution for everything, especially when it comes to trips therefore I do not try to say that my way is the only way. SO many people and SO many mods....and headaches.

They're not very big, but one of them comfortably holds all my camp kitchen accessories. And being small, they're easy to carry with beefy handles. Honestly though, they mostly end up riding inside the truck and if I have more gear than will fit in the cargo area, I just put loose stuff that can get wet etc. on my cheap Harbor Freight roof rack and secure it with a bungie cargo net:

As an added bonus, the roof rack hung vertically on the wall in the garage with the cargo net attached doubles as a basketball/football/soccer ball holder when not on my truck.

 

I just got one from harbor freight. They were on sale, 15 % off. 52 inch or so long, 6 inches height. Perfect for me.

 

FFS the personality of some people on here is interesting. You know some people need to carry around every piece of gear they own 24/7. Better load up your jerry can of gas and water, RTT, awning, spare tire, battery and solar, and storage boxes to head to Fry's. If you come on here for help why come with an attitude.
