I used a heat gun. It wasn't too bad, but I had to remove the upper grill to get an angle with the plastic pry tool. I also swapped the matte black front valance for an oem gloss valance so it turned into a little bit of a project. Note: for those swapping the front valance without removing the entire bumper, if you remove the upper grill (very easy) it makes access to the top two rows of clips on the valance infinitely easier.

I think it's a major improvement over the version in post #1. I just think the grille needs something to break up all the black.

Looks clean but I may have gone with a gloss instead of a matte. Looks a little unfinished. I am digging the all black without the letters tho!

I was okay with no lettering but now that you added them it does look better. Thanks for the tip about removing the upper grille to get to the valance. It gets me closer to being off the fence.

I have extra valances stacking up here like cordwood. I'd give you one if you were closer. BTW, it is very very easy. I've done the front 4x now and rear 3x. With the front, in addition to removing the top grill section, another pro-tip is to use a hair dryer or heat gun on the clips. I used a hair dryer on my last go-around it made the clips slide right out.

It only really matters what you think.

That said, I don't hate the look, but I do think that some gloss letters or a contrasting color letters would compliment the look.

No, just the first couple posts, didn't feel like reading every single person's suggestion.

Okay, scrolled back a few posts, saw that the OP added the lettering. Looks good!

It's predatory and BA-AF IMO, kind of a violent gentleman appearance; but as you noted, to each their own.

Sorry for side-tracking this discussion, but what size tires are you running in this pic? Have been considering Rubitreks on our 4R.

Those are 265/70 17 which are one size up from GX stock size but I think are factory 4R size (?).

I really like the Rubitreks. This is my second set on two different vehicles. They do good on everything IMO, and are priced right.

I understand why people do it, but I'm not a fan of de badging, so I don't like the plain look. I think what would have looked best would be blacked out lettering on a black grill. I do like the black valance though.

edit: Oops, I see you added the lettering back on. I like it that way, looks good!

Yes, 265/70/17 is the standard size on the 4R. One "size" larger than the 3rd gen Tacoma. About 31.5 OD versus 30.5.
