Well the nice thing about silver is that you don't have to worry about swapping out the valances. Congrats and enjoy in good health.

Nice find. Are you going to put a plate steel bull bar bumper on this one?

That, my friend, is a very good question. What are the odds of it happening twice? I always thought they were unsafe in other ways but obviously I have a huge risk to mitigate.

I have one last question for you. (Former USAF and also a USAA member here as well). How was your recent experience with USAA? I’ve read horror stories about how the customer service had changed and them not wanting to payout, etc, etc…. My experience with them in 2017 was awesome. When a guy hit my Audi I filed thru USAA (my own insurance) because I didn’t want to deal with his insurance a figured USAA would get things done faster. They were so fast that I actually had my deductible refunded the same day my car came out of the shop. (3 weeks after the accident). My biggest concern is because I’ve been paying an extra $160 every year for “Car Replacement Assistance “ which is supposed to give me an additional 20% in the event of a total loss. I’ve always wondered if that just gives them more of a reason to say it’s repairable vs a total loss.

When the new 6th gen T4R finally comes out, I’m wondering if it won’t generate a spurt period of owners trading in their late model 5th gen’s? There will probably be “X amount” of 5th gen owners who just gotta have the latest and greatest(?) in the way of the 6th gen.

Maybe that will inject some nice pre-owned 5th gens in to the market? Conversely, if the 6th gen quickly proves to be a dud once it hits the market, the 5th gen market may really dry up, as those who planned on trading in to the 6th gen will then hold on to their old trusty dinosaurs. Thoughts?

Sure thing, dude! I'll give you the rundown. I didn't have any fluff or extras in my policy. I didn't have rental car coverage, and I have never heard of the "Car Replacement Assistance".

The day after the wreck the claims person said she was almost certain it would be totaled because of all the airbags going off. She proceeded as such, instructed me to get all my stuff out of and off of the truck and she would mail me a return envelope for the title. Within two days, I had a market analysis written up, with several comps of similar vehicles. The initial offer seemed very fair to be honest, but I did my due diligence and shopped around. The comps they showed me were from up to a month ago, and the market has gone batshit crazy since then. I almost felt guilty asking them for more money because I didn't want to feel like a mooch/scammer, but the used prices are nuts. They are currently in the process of reassessing the amount. I'm sure they will bump the settlement a bit. Even if they didn't, the numbers they gave me were based on solid analysis.

My experience with them has been outstanding. I've read a lot of stuff in the last couple of years about how they have gone downhill but I have to say they have treated me well. When my wife totaled her Subaru several years ago it was a painless process. I would recommend them to anybody.

I went through all the angst of questioning my sanity for buying a used 5th gen. I drove the Land Cruiser and the new Tacoma. I really don't understand all of the vitriolic hatred for the new platforms. They drive nice, and the technology is amazing and works well. The 360 camera in the new Tacoma TRD Premium is like having a drone flying over you. it's amazing. I'll bet the new 4Runner is going to be great. The Tundra has had issues but Toyota is doing the right thing and taking care of their customers. Time marches on.

That being said, I would guess that the 5th gen 4Runners are going to be like the 2nd gen Tundra. I don't think there's going to be a flood of people dumping them. Quite the opposite. Watching and participating in this market in the last month, people are panicking to get their hands on a 5th gen before the good ones are gone.

I don't think the 6th gen will be a dud. But it just won't have that Je ne sais quoi of the old dinosaur. That was why I bought mine last year, and why I ended up getting another one when I had the chance to take a Mulligan. We shall see.
