    Hello,
I hope someone can help me out.
The cluster I have is basic, speedometer etc, I would to upgrade to the cluster with a tachometer. Can it be done and work or do I have to do upgrades or is it just a waste of time and $$?
    Its an 1988 4runner.
Any information would be greatly appreciated!

    Good morning,
Doing the sr5 cluster swap was one of my favorite changes to do on my 89’. It’s not too complicated. You need a cluster out of the same generation pickup or runner. This is easier if you can find one that was originally paired to a 22re (if that’s your motor). If it’s a v6, you have to adjust the ohmes of the tach to work with a 22re. It sounds more complicated than it actually is and there are plenty of write ups on that if you find yourself in that situation. The only other thing you need is an oil pressure sending unit. It’s important you do not use the standard dlx unit because it’s merely a warning light. The sr5 oil sending unit is for an actual gauge and you’ll need it. If you plug in the cluster without changing that first it will blow the oil gauge. Some have said that certain runners are wired for a tach and others aren’t however I’ve always seen them be plug and play. Truly the most complicated part is finding the cluster. Oreilys autozone any of those carry the oil sending unit. In my opinion it is well worth the upgrade, I enjoy mine

I've got an extra cluster if you don't have one yet. It's setup for a 4cyl.

If you still have the cluster let me know.

    Thanks D.
