I really didn't like the various method of tapping the rearview mirror wiring harness for a radar detector and there are 2 plug and play adapters (Dongar and some other one on Amazon) Neither was ideal as i just wanted an RJ-45 for my Uniden R4.

    So.... I built one.

Here are some pics of the process

All I have to do now is cleanly install it along with a blendmount and I am good to go

99% of the time, the radar detector lives in my other car, which is a magnet for tickets. I figured since I invested in a rd for that car, why not wire up the 4Runner to use it on road trips. The troopers that run TX highways love to request forced donations. Since I don't know their typical hiding spots away from home, and it is a cheap investment to build a harness and add a mount, why not?

I really don't understand whats funny. At least my 4Runner is 100% mechanically sound, and I'm not old to drive like a grandma. :D

Don't get me wrong. Waze is great but radar detectors have technically grown and still have their niche in ticket avoidance.
