Take a look at the Tacoma mpgs from actual users. In terms of power from someone that’s owned a couple turbo vehicles if you are actually using that power then it’s eating a lot of fuel.

Thats fine for most people using vehicles with charging infrastructure nearby, but not so great when the 4runner is being used long distance in the middle of nowhere, for longer periods of time.

Electric drivetrains are fine, but the problem for a 4runner type vehicle is where you get the energy, and not being to take an extra 5 or 10 gallons of gasoline’s worth of energy with you. Which brings me rightback to being totally ok with a diesel-electric :)

What do you mean? I get this with the 4Runner already.

You just need to tow a trailer with a diesel generator. :D

On average, the ones on fuelly.com are all under 3,000 miles, so not even broken in yet. I don't think we're getting much reliable data at this point.

That doesn't mean I have to like it.

I just checked on Tesla's website and even with a Long Range model 3, I would spend over 6 hours charging on a trip to Florida. No thanks.

Hopefully by the time I don't have an option anymore, I will either be living there full-time or have a lot more free time on my hands.

Hmm, let me think a minute….

if we can get a 4 wheeled trailer that has a 3d articulated hitch with driven wheels… yes, yes that will work just fine :). We can call it the Overland Train Runner!

Toyota wants an engine it can keep around a while rather than eeking out minor gains from an older design.

It’s a lot of icing on this cake too that they share half(?) the components with the transverse passenger car 2.4T and it was designed with optional hybridization in mind so there’s pluses there too both in logistics and packaging.

I’m certain we’ll all be in vehicles with some electrification eventually but it will certainly vary from market segment to different regions.

Plug-in hybrids/range extended EV’s are ideal for a lot of suburban and urban use cases (I said the phrase!) and are the best “bang-for-limited-battery-supply” option and are less reliant on L2 charger installation.

A plug in hybrid would certainly fit my use-case. These really seem like the best compromise of the available technologies with now.

In many people's use-cases, an EV makes total sense, especially as a second vehicle, or in multi vehicle households.

In any use-case, you really just need to decide what type of vehicle fits your use-case best.

I doubt it will change much. Look at the averages. 2024 is 19.4 mpg. 2023 is 18.9 mpg. 2015 is 17.1 mpg. Basically gained 1 mpg per generation. That’s pretty pathetic.

I did look at the averages. I'm saying that I don't consider the data to be very reliable because most of the vehicles are very low mileage. The fuel economy on my 4Runner improved after a few thousand miles.

So maybe they gain 1 more mpg if lucky? Still not very impressive. The Tundra is another good example. It also only gained around 2 mpgs switching to a turbo engine. There’s even bigger problems there than the underperforming mpgs though.

Down in my area (New Orleans) I see mostly women driving in a Limited. I never noticed they had that many Limited models driving around until I sold the FJ and moved to a 4Runner.

Yeah, the Tundra certainly has had some issues.

We'll see. Maybe the fuel economy will only be marginally better. But, between that, and more power, it's still going to be appealing to a lot of people.

    Looks nice.

    Manufactured in S. Carolina.

Apparently the VW dealerships in US are filing a bunch of lawsuits because VW has decided to sell these direct to consumers and bypass them. Please let this start a trend among other manufacturers!

Local dealer said they should have their first Gen6 arriving Jan 6, already sold.

I think you could use-case this term for a broad variety situations. It could probably be utilized however anybody wants. :D:D:D

if they offer the Scout with a hard roof (doubtful), I might buy one.

Digging the simplicity. Looks nice and really like the tailgate spare.

Compared to all the bulky lines and ridiculous over badging on the new 4Runner, digging the Scout more. That's hard to say knowing it's a VW product.

Although VW owns "Scout", it's an American product...or close to it. That may be good, or bad.
