Good afternoon and thank you for the ad. I have read and learned a lot from the info here and this is my 1st post. 2000 4x4 4runner. Back story. I was backing out of a parking spot a couple days ago and another vehicle (later found out was having a medical issue) was about to hit me. I punched the accelerator to avoid contact which thankfully did not happen. This is where the issue started. Once I put it in D I could hear what is best described like a gristly type noise. Its not banging or grinding. Like faint noise of small particles in liquid lol. Hard to find a comparison. It drove and shifts fine and I cannot hear it going down the road but is pretty prevalent with the windows down at a light or stop sign. There is no noise in Park or Neutral. Looking for suggestions on what this might be. TC? Tranny trashed? TIA for any info.

what year or gen is your 4runner? Any shops in your area do free estimates or at least willing to hop in and take a listen to it? Either way welcome to the group!

TY. It is a 2000 4x4. I fixed it in my post. Might be just me but I've never trusted a transmission shop, at least not around here

any mechanics you do trust around you, might be something might or you might just be hyperaware of anything out of the norm after the near miss

You could do a drain and fill and check out the fluid with a flashlight if you’re concerned. Could also change the Transfer case fluid while you’re at it.
