Rear axle SR5 vs offroad

    My local 4x4 shop tried to tell me the 5th gen SR5 came with a “stronger” rear axle than the Offroad?

    Sounds like bs to me but wanted to be sure.

    Maybe the differentials are different. I would think the axles would be the same but they may be different too.

    2019 4Runner TRD Offroad Premium
    Not too sure about the axles in the 5th gen Runner but in the 2nd gen Tacoma, the 8.4 in the non OR was technically stronger because of the larger carrier bearings and the truss but the ring gear was still 8” in diameter. The OR there was a 8.0 but smaller carrier bearings and no truss.

    They’re probably saying that because of the difference in payload between the rear locker equipped models and the non-rear locker models. Non-lockers have an extra ~300 pounds according to the door stickers
