Hey guys, first post here & brand new owner of a 05 Limited (JBL).

Looking to either replace the factory stereo or put in some type of after market AUX port so I can play my own music. As you all know, the 05s don't have an AUX port or bluetooth. With the JBL system making the replacement of the factory stereo with aftermarket head unit a little more expensive and complicated. What do you all recommend I should do? Again only looking for an iPhone hookup so I can play my own music. Not focused on bluetooth phone calls or anything like that.

My 4Runner doesn't have the JBL system so I cannot speak for the connections and wiring. I just searched units that had the options and features I wanted for the price I was willing to pay and ordered the installation kit to install it. It's really easy and I was done with the stereo and front speakers in less than 3 hours.

NWilli10, what did you finally decide to do? I am also a new owner dealing with the same issue. Jim

I have the JBL premium with the 10 speakers and 6-CD in dash. I bought an adapter from Crutchfield that has an AUX input as well as Bluetooth and microphone so I can connect my phone to it to make calls or play music. I have been very pleased with it since the installation in 2/2020. The unit plugs into the back of the radio and the box sits in the glove box. You change between it and the radio functions using the buttons for the CD player. I plug my Sirius head unit into the AUX port, Bluetooth for music and phone.
