Hey, I am looking to buy a 2004 4Runner and wanted to get some thoughts on the rust. It doesn't look bad but I know these older 4th gen 4Runners are very prone to rust. It's been in the Bay Area, CA most of its life. Thanks everyone!

Do you think some wire wheel and fluid film will help save it for the long term?

If you are in the rust belt, I would wash it down and apply Woolwax. If still in Kalifornia, I wouldn't worry about it.

    Just a couple
Looks good...just the protective coat starting to wear...I'd lightly sand it (brilla-pad-style), spray it with some rust-eating primer and throw a light coat on it to bring the color back...nothing to worry about and just keep an eye on it...

My rust treatment is wire brush by hand and wire wheel in angle drill. Brush on a chemical rust lock. Follow directions on bottle. My marine grade Rust Lock says let dry overnight. Brown rust is chemically changed to a grey coat. Wash with water & nylon brush as needed . Let dry completely. Then paint. I brush Rustoleum for thick coating and work the paint into any corners or porous areas. It will last many years.
I treated my rock rails and got excellent results.IMG_7729.jpg IMG_6104.jpg
