Engine Blown at 10k?

Does anyone know if the Tundra issues also affect the 5th-gen Four Runners? I just bought a brand new 2024 in May, and it just hit 10k, and my engine stalled. Then, when I tried to restart, it started smoking and wouldn't shut off, and then when it finally did, a bunch of smoke came out of my engine. Any thoughts?

Tundra has a completely different engine. Have it towed to the dealership and go from there. I've not seen anything like this on a 5th gen.

Tundra is completely unrelated, these are solid designs and construction but assuming no apparent cause, manufacturing defects can only be minimized and not eliminated.

    It’s warranty time.

Oil leaked out? I mean mass production will have some issues no matter the brand but take it in for a warranty replacement.

There are no visible oil leaks or fluid under the vehicle. In fact, I just had it in for the 10K free service, where they changed the oil. I drove it home with no issues after service, but this was the first time since I tried driving it. I bought this due to reliability issues so its a real bummer Im having major issue at only 10k brand new.

Sounds like they messed up. Again take it in and any brand can have an unexpected catastrophic failure, even Toyota.

Good chance the dealership botched something, or you just got a rare defect of some sort. As mentioned above, it's a warranty issue.

There's your answer. Dealer service FAK'd something up if you had it there ,drove home & then tried to drive it after it sat since dealer work. They will have miles when they did the work, make sure you have your current mileage to compare. No Oil light on way home? I've heard of Toyota dealers (FJ Forum) releasing "serviced" vehicles W/no oil added. Check the dip stick before you try to start again. Take Pictures of everything Odometer, dip stick New oil hard to see on dip stick.

From the symptoms and picture of the smoke location, could it be an electrical issue? Maybe rodent damage to the harness?

This looks like they forgot to add oil back in. You managed to drive home with whatever little oil about a quart that stays inside the engine during an oil change.
Once that was used, that's it. There has to be a low oil light on the dash though when you drove it home.
Damn man, this sucks on any car let alone a 2024 one.

This is why I never take my truck to the dealership (or any other shop if I can avoid it)...but especially the dealership.

Yeah sounds like no oil or not enough oil was put back in after draining. Gosh that is a shame

I would check to see if the oil pan bolt is in and secure; is there oil all over bottom of engine/skid plate area?

This exact thing happened to my mother's 1984 Camry...with only 700 miles on it. Definitely a factory/dealership f-up. In her situation, it was shipped without an oil cap and no one bothered to look.

This was back in the day when Toyota gave actual customer service. Her car was towed to the dealership, given a thorough checking, and within a week she was given a new car.

Go to Toyota and raise some immortal hell, my friend. This never should have happened to you.

Should it not have seized? OP says the engine would not shut off. I bet an electrical issue.

I connected Blue Driver to pull codes, and this is what it says. I checked the oil, and it seems filled, so it doesn't seem like that now.

I called dealer I bought it from and told them I serviced it somewhere else. I was afraid if I took it back to the one that did the original service they would try to cover up if they did something wrong.

Why are you asking the internet - which is full of expert fools? This is a pure and simple "take it back to the servicing dealer" issue. Only the dealer can determine if what went wrong was a warranty issue or a screw up during service and make good on it.

Well take it to a dealer. No need to self diagnose, it's under warranty.

I'm having it towed to the dealer today. Just got off the phone with them. I posted the last nite when it first happened and was freaking out. Its brand new, and after I babied it over its first 10k, it started smoking so bad like it was about to blow up.

They can't deny a warranty claim unless something was done incorrectly by someone else that caused the damage. The other shop has insurance and would be liable to fix your vehicle if it was their fault. If it's an issue with rodents then your comprehensive insurance will cover it.

I did have my front headlights, fog lights replaced with alpha rex and a front camera added. I am hoping they didn't screw something up in doing all that work electrically. I had zero issues when they did it all at 3k miles and drove it all the way across country after the work no issues. This issue only showed up right after my 10k service.
