Nice, I almost got some more of those guys today, but something scared them and they were gone.. oh well maybe tom lol

 

Caught the tail end tonight (didnt know we were supposed to see them). I think they're going to be back tomorrow so will pull the camera out instead of snapping with the phone

 

Nice, I heard possibly up until 3am here in southern illinois here's to hoping.. at work now blah

 

I just tried looking it up and appears they may peak again in about 2 hours (10:30-11pm eastern). I've got the camera out and ready

 

Unfortunately I don't get off until 1030, and have about a 10 minute drive.. maybe I'll get lucky lol

Excellent shot! I've camped at the Cottonwood Pass trailhead campground, and hiked up to Chicken Spring Lake, but I've always wanted to go to the Cottonwood Lakes and never have. It's on my bucket list.

 

Thanks. You should definitely try to get back to the Cottonwood Lakes. I've taken the Cottonwood Pass Trail back for a big loop up to Whitney and down Crabtree Basin (about 60 miles). It's a great area back there, but the Cottonwood Lakes has so much in a small(ish) area, it makes it the better choice, IMO. I really want to get back into Miter Basin.

Cool report with excellent photos! I've also stayed at the Whitney Portal campground, although from the photo it looks like a different site (that would have been too big a coincidence haha). It was on a motorcycle ride with buddies back in 2010.
