Hi Everyone. It's been a few months, but I'm back at work on another series about travels in our 4Runner. Still lots to do, but I wanted to share a teaser for our upcoming series about travels to the farthest East you can drive in North America: Newfoundland.

This series will be pretty short. Looks like 4 episodes.

In case you missed the last one, the last series was about the time we shipped our 4Runner to Iceland. Posted the videos here:
    https://www.4runners.com/threads/5th-gen-in-iceland.37677/

If you like what you see, subscribe and send it to someone you'd want to drive to Newfoundland with!

Episode 2 is live! Lots of fun wheeling and recovery in this one! Bonus 80 series if you're into that stuff.

Just saw the Iceland trip and started watching that series this afternoon. Was fortunate to visit Iceland a few years ago, even though our trip was different, seeing the countryside brings back some great memories. Your videos are excellent, just so well done.

Finished the Iceland series. Subscribed and watched the Newfoundland videos. Shipping my 4R to Iceland isn't in the plans, but driving to Nova Scotia and catching the ferry to Newfoundland is reasonable. Did you go this spring/summer to NF?

Awesome! Thanks for the subscribe! I was in Newfoundland in early to mid June. I would recommend maybe mid to late June? I don't know if it was just the way the weather system was when I visited, but on the way in it rained every day. Then, on the way home the weather was much nicer. A few campgrounds were still closed for the season and led to a very long day trying to find a spot in Terra Nova. But, the campgrounds that were open had lots of spots still open even late into the evening.

I love Newfoundland. Only ever been to Gander but the people and the place were both amazing. And of course, there’s the town’s incredible response when 6,000 unexpected guests arrived on 9/11.

I really wanted to stop in Gander.

I had never heard the Legend of Gander, but wound up sitting next to two gentleman from Gander at bar in St John’s. They were seriously glowing with a love of life and were great to talk to. They were literally inviting me to come visit their home the next day for one of the gentleman’s birthdays. But, I was already feeling the pull to get home, then.

    I should send them a gift…

I hear you. My means of transport was a little faster - a DC-10. :) Our flight was "hijacked" to Gander as part of a 1995 security exercise when I worked at American. All anyone needs to know about the warm people of Gander is in this story: I was coordinating the stop for American and was trying to call the caterers. A woman answered, "Gander Mall." I said, sorry, I must have the wrong number, I was trying to call XYZ Catering. She said, "Oh, please hold on for a moment." I was like, huh? Then she came back a couple of minutes later and said, "I looked up the number for XYZ and you were just off by one digit. Here's the number."

They also having a stunning and deeply thoughtful memorial to the members of the US 101st Airborne who died in the 1985 Arrow Air crash near Gander Lake. They built it so the soldier is facing in the direction of the 101st's home base at Fort Campbell, KY. The children were originally holding olive branches to symbolize the peacekeeping mission from which the 101st was returning.
